    NTSC (import games)

    Hi all,

Quick question if you don't mind, I recently purchased the link for this website of ebay..

    http://www.psgame.co.uk/catalog/index.php

The games are imports (NTSC) is it possible to play these games on any standard (not tampered with!) UK ps2?

    Thanks
    Adam

Nope, the only current console without region encoding is the Gameboy Advance.

You'd need to get your PS2 chipped (which is highly illegal) or buy an import PS2 to play the games on.

nope it would not work if you dont tamper with it you could use a magic booot disc they talk about which you dont need to chip just put the boot disc in and then take it out and then place the nstc one in and it should work

http://www.memtechsolutionsltd.co.uk/ one result from googling 'Ps2 Flip top lid'

You'll need to know which version your ps2 is ( http://www.modchip.ca/help/whatps2.php ) and you'll want both Swap magic CD and DVD boot discs.

well said JimmyBoy was going to mention the same thing. It's something people usually forget about when getting NTSC consoles.

IMHO, much easier and not much more expensive to import a US console...

I THINK this is where I got mine from about a year ago now: http://www.gamestop.com/productmerch.asp?groupid=78

lik-sang do a magic swap disc i think

The swap disc thing is totally legal, its not actaully modding the PS2 so its ok Works just the the dvd region free discs etc. Doesnt always work with the new PS2 models though, check your version number first. First generation ones dont even need a disc, though that gets close to the boundrys of what we can talk about so i'll stop there

More like slightly illegal, youre not going to have cops knocking down the door, in fact they wont care at all. It just means Sony can sue your arse off Most annoying since alot of great games dont release here for ages if at all. Especially RPGS that they cba translating.

I don't see how having a modded PS2 is illegal. I suppose there is probably some EULA for the hardware.

I have a DMS3 in my PS2 and I use it for imports (japan). I don't have any copied games. I don't see what I'm doing wrong.

Modding your ps2 is not illegial, you can do what ever you want with it, HOWEVER by-passing copyright protection is illegial which inturn makes it illegial.
If sony didnt add code in the ps2 so that it wouldnt play imports, then it'd be fine.

Not sure if Im remembering the names right, but - the law was passed in america as "digital milennium copyright act" or something, and then europe copyed it with the ECD - european copyright directive.

Basically a stupid law that means you cant do stuff that you might want to do, even if youve got no intention of doing anythign illegial. For example It means that its illegial to buy a protected DVD, and back it up on your computer - becuase to do that, you have to get passed the protections.

But you can still buy mod chips in the US, how come we cant? If both laws are virtually the same thing.
