    Hexus.lan

Me and a few others would think it would be cool to have a HEXUS lan gathering, i am not sure if it has been done before but it would be cool.
so if you would be up for it then post any ideas you have! it would be cool to have it as an annual even possibly, any way its just an idea.

    Cheers

Yeah it would be great, we have to arrange a place where everyone could get to though.

I can't find the thread on it , but IIRC finding the correct venue and setup was an early stumbling block. If its an official HEXUS event then you can't just use any old place etc.

well ideas on how to solve these problems would be good! if we want to do it then we first of all have to make sure its feasible and second we have to try and over come all these protential problems e.g transport....
if you want to discuss this in more detail, iam always in the #hexus.net irc room.

iam thinking it could be a laugh

I think you would need to find the location of all the Hexus people that want to join first, and try and make the location somewhere the most people can reach. However, Hexus has spread across the globe. Even for those in the UK, it could be quite far to travel.

the problems all come down to two things: money and accountability.

HEXUS is a company, and as such things such as the HEXUS name are important

HEXUS forum members are free to organise anything they like - but if they want to attach the HEXUS name to it, for marketing or other purposes, then it becomes a concern for HEXUS Ltd, and it's somewhat unlikely that valuable IP like that would just get handed out to unknown parties from the forum.

If we shift the focus onto an official event, then there are a large number of significant cost concerns to worry about - a venue, with infrastructure for the duration (including networking and internet access), security, and all sorts of other health and safety concerns such as adequate toilet facilities, administrative facilities, rubbish disposal, etc etc etc. The end result is that a LOT of money would need to be spent. Forum members as private individuals can look at each other and say "well, if something gets nicked/someone dies/gophers eat my pc, that's my look out" - that's fine for private individuals, but for HEXUS Ltd, they'd be accountable and there's risk of being sued for whatever reason.

Expense, liabilities, and the extreme amount of work involved make a "proper" HEXUS Ltd event unlikely (unless we branch out into it as a further business direction), and I doubt David or PD (whom, if memory serves, are the company directors and the ones in control of trademarks) would let anyone ELSE use the name, largely because HEXUS Ltd would be held accountable, even if that weren't accurate.

I don't think I'm out of line with any of the above summation, but I was involved in the last round of looking into it, and the final decisions made by David sorta boil down to the above. Sorry guys :/

directhex i completly understand what you are saying as going under the name of hexus would mean that Hexus ltd would be liable for any thing that could possibly go wrong. how about a sponcership from Hexus, where they could advertise etc and maybe help a little towards organising?
    could that be possible?
