    Vampire - Bloodlines prob

OK, finished HL2, installed Bloodlines. Installed ok, hit PLAY and the screen goes blank, get an '98.52Mhz Out of range' mesage. Unfortunately my monitor only goes to 85mhz & no matter how hard i try I cant get it to a useable refresh rate. Any ideas?

Assuming your meaning refresh rate (vertical sync), its measured in Hz (or khz for horizontal sync), not Mhz
chances are your graphics card has driver problems, causing it to set a very high refresh rate, as it crashes, or something.

Try reinstalling graphics card drivers, and a program like reforce to lock therefreshrate to the one you want - although this probably wont help if its a driver prob.

If its an N Vidia card I think I know what the prob may be, It happened to me when I was trying to sort refresh rates etc after a new driver install. Annoying thing with this game is that theres a few issues with it that havnt been patched yet. Most annoying one for me is when I frenzy on it (Quite often as I am a Gangrel) and he just freezes on the spot till the frenzy finishes. Not good if in the middle of a combat situation.

Will try fresh driver install. Maybe that'll help.

Surprise surprise I have an XFX card also !!!

Go into the advanced N Vidia settings, under the nview settings set it to single display first.

Under performance and quality settings put the Vertical Sync to off.

Under refresh rate overides set it to Applications control refresh rate (this is the bit that done it to me) and that should sort out the problem for you as when both are set to enabled for some reason they clash and cause the problem you are encountering.

I recommend using the Forceware 70.90 drivers on this one also. For some reason half the video options are missing in the game compared to HL2 and at times my framerate really drops on it.

I'd say bin the game before you have to suffer playing it.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

My problem happens with Half Life 2 as well as this game..

What happens is everything loads normally, and then the title music plays but the screen is blank... I can Atl-Tab in and out but the screen just stays blank... So I have to Alt Tab, Ctrl Alt Del and cancel the process..

    My fix?

Disable HypersnapDX (a screenshot program that runs in the background) and then the game starts up just fine.

I realize this doesn't pertain to any of your problems, but might help someone searching here for a solution.

Alot of the problems with this game I would say is down to bugs and rushing it out (even though it was in development for ages). Must admit I am really enjoying it though, upto the bit where I have to find the Nosferatu in the sewers and have completed all the quests so far including the body on the pier at the start and finding the bounty hunter, right down to his car !

I'm still on the 2nd area of the main map and have visited a fair few places including the museum and a Nosferatu leaders place that goes up in flames. I get income from a nightclub regularly now and scared a guy into giving me his only copy of a movie script (that was really fun, the options to intimidate where in green and the guy swayed to my way of thinking, my intimidation is on around level 4 now I think). Its a really ood game and has a great story.

At least with this one they set out to do a full modern day vampire story, first one (redemption) first 2 areas where set way back in history then last 2 jumped to modern day. Old days bits had so much charm and were fantastic to play through but the sudden move to modern day spoilt it I thought.

I enjoyed the game very very much. I haven't beat it though.

I had a whole weekend reserved to play and finish it before my vacation, but people decided to surprise visit me for the entire weekend and the following three days... so now I have to wait till I get back (the 5th of Jan) to continue on with it.

I suspect I have about 8 hours of play left in it.

Glad there is a patch out as I have been waiting for one so that I can continue playing the game, as it ran really poorly on my machine.
