Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor :-)
Blummin hell...this is a beauty of a game
the combat is so smooth, so instinctive and SOOO damn cool.
My mate Ferral gifted it to me with all expansion pack too.
I always worry about a new game,... getting into it... learning it's ways...its intricacies.
But this has guided me very well and while it's COMPLEX .. it doesnt need to be for you to get killing Orcs immediately.
And the combat.. oh it's glorious. There's SO much to .... do !
but ... the storeage it takes up is IMMENSE.
I use a WD Velociraptor 150gig for my games drive.
When I installed from Steam I thought the size suggestion was broken....there's NO WAY it's 46gig....
but it IS!!!
forty six GIG!!!!
Worth every kb I tell ya :)
Re: Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor :-)

Quite a few games are in-between 30GB and 40GB now - Max Payne 3 was 35GB!!!
Re: Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor :-)
Black Ops 3 is over 60Gb, Wolfenstein : The New Order is 45Gb, 18Gb on both Dark Souls 3 & Hitman (Hitman is steadily getting bigger with it being episodic), Hitman Absolution is 45Gb. Games on PC are getting bigger and bigger!!
So yeah, Mordor is amazing, I have it on PC and also on PS4 now, seen it in our local Argos Clearance on PS4 for a mere £10 so just had to nab it and been loving it again.

The baseline for game sizes *used* to be "will it fit on an Xbox 360 DVD"
Now it's "how much of a patch can we get away with, on top of an entire Xbox One Blu Ray" (the answer to that is "about 20GB on top of a blu-ray")
The Linux version of Shadow of Mordor is actually bigger - 55 GiB

This amuses me more than it should, since the Linux/Mac version is by a company called Feral. https://www.feralinteractive.com/en/...fmordor/story/
Re: Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor :-)
LotR:SoM is OK... I haven't been particularly engaged by the story so far, though and the combat to date has been pretty repetitive. I have some abilities and can usually storm through a Stronghold without dying, unless more than a couple of those Orc Captain guys show up - They have a habit of five coming along at once and doing the "I'm gonna kill you" cutscene talk one after the other, right when I'm in the middle of swinging a sword and dispatching another of 'em...
Not sure what riding the big beasty things are supposed to do, but I get proper müllered whenever I try, so I don't bother with those.
Re: Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor :-)
Got this for the other half for the PS4, 8+ GB update...
Interesting and a bit odd so far. Sneaking around gets you one hit kills, normally fighting is OK up-to 3 or 4 at once, but any more you don't have time to do a finishing move when you ground them before having to parry - though starting to get a hang of the hit combo > execution move. When it all gets a bit much just run away a short distance and hide behind a rock, then start again. Orks it seems have very bad eyesight.
The sense of scale seems a bit odd, I was expecting more travel time between locations but the map areas aren't as big as I first thought.
It will be interesting to see how they balance the levelling up with the escalating difficulty going forward.

Later on you get better executions, complete with dramatic slow-mo, that don't get in the way of the fight and sometimes even scare the others off... especially if you utterly rip their Captain to pieces in front of their eyes!!

They're also very stupid and give up easily... ;)
Re: Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor :-)
The true beauty of this game is spending time designing a mouse trap style set of connected events which result in the most grizzly or entertaining Orc deaths possible. So much more rewarding that just single handedly clearing out a stronghold on the back of epic runes + combat practise.
Re: Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor :-)
I've had my arse handed to me on a plate in the last few fights.... gotta perfect the kill move on a keyboard once I have them stunned .. i will rearrange keys I think
