    unreal tournament

I'm due to get a new computer (on delivery right now) and it should be able to tackle even the most demanding of games. I'm not a die hard doom3 or HL2 fan (sorry everyone!) and prefer something a little more refined like Unreal touranment. I absolutely loved the first version but saddly never played the 2003 or 2004 versions cause my computer wasn't really up to it and so never really paid much attention to either one...

but now my new computer will be HUGE(!) so whats the difference between UT2003 and 2004? I also notice that one is a dvd version the other on cd...what are the benefits of either???

ut2003 wants to be quake3, ut2004 is about halfway between 2003 and ut classic - plus has the rather wonderful Onslaught mode.

the dvd version involves less disc swapping during install than the cd version

that pretty much sums it up

neither 2k3 nor 2k4 seem to live up to what ut99 was/is, just about everyone I know who played ut99 dislike (but still play ) 2k4.

I'm not a fan of vehicles in games, unless that is the object of the game, so I don't agree Onslaught is wonderful (i.e. FPS games with vehicles = poo)

eh? you get to use vehicles in the game? is that a bit like Halo then...not that I had the power to run that either, i just played it on xbox whilst wandering through hmv

i was just wondering if ut2004 is worth it for £15 or not to bother and just play UT on really insanely high settings...

I spent 50 euros on UT2004 on the day it came out, STILL play it a year on, several times a day if I can. I played it on lowest settings and naff res, but highest settings hasn't made it better than it was on an Fx5200. Try Farcry aswell.

But seriously, I really didn't like UT2003 - it was too much like Quake 3. UT2004 is by far a better game, and even has a mutator to give you UT if you want!

We love it, playing over the LAN at uni... and there's all sorts of funny packs and maps you can get for it... and the vehicles are well cool (i can't drive a raptor to save my life though) Onslaught is definitely the best...

One of the guys plays as Bender from futurama... gigglefest!

I've got a pink bunny suit as my character.

well it's 10pm, time for some C&C generals!

I play UT2004 most lunch breaks here at work.

Only ever play Onslaught tho, so much fun with the vehicles.

There are some crazy servers about that have some funky special weapons (one-shot-kill-lazer-sniper-rifle anyone!)

    Definatly worth the money

    UT2K4 = UT99 + Ut2K3 + Battlefield

Basically Bombing run from ut2k3 was added, they put an assault mode back in for the hardcore players out there and then created onslaught which is alot like Battlefield 1942.

IT IS A GREAT GAME , one of the best mods for it would be alien swarm, which is an overhead style game where you control four marines (medic, engineer, Marine, Hacker) and you can choose which ones you want.

Then imagine Aliens movie and there you go.
    Dude

Also many of the mods moved to UT2K4 when it came out so you should be able to play more online multiplayer if that floats your boat.
