How do you dispose of your old games

So i'm thinking I might finally get an Xbox one S at Christmas. Not sure if i can be bothered waiting for Scopio but i still have my 9 year old 360 doing a reasonable job of supplying me with a few hours of looting, killing and leveling up but I have some fairly old games to get rid off and I'm not sure of the best way. Stuff like Madden 09, Smackdown from a few years ago. Old games that arent classics like say Mass Effect 2 that I can keep or maybe even trade in for a pound or something. So whats the best way to get rid of em? Put them in the bin? Charity shop? Can you recycle disks anywhere?

You'd be lucky to get a pound for sports games, unless its the current year's rerelease.

There are a few charities that put donated consoles and games in to kids hospitals - http://www.getwellgamers.org.uk/ - first hit off google. Charity shops may well be able to do something good with them close to xmas.

Don't ever bin them, there's always going to be someone less well off that would be grateful for them.

Just want to echo what Virtuo said. If the games are of semi decent quality (triple A titles or were one off's) then trading them in will most likely only give you a few quid.

As soon as you look at selling anything sports-wise that has a year attached to it you're return is going to drop very sharply. I know most trade-in places have will not even bother taking them because they struggle to sell them.

Big titles are always worth a quick google or search on auction sites to see if you can get a few quid for them though

Personally I've normally just done "job lot" listings to try and get rid of them... otherwise they get thrown out. The idea of gaming charities never even crossed my mind! But it will in the future

Re: How do you dispose of your old games

Call the kids unit in your local hospital and see if they would be any good there. If not then bundle all the sports games up and start them off at a 99p bid on eBay, someone will buy them.

You can't get rid of old games! They should be treasured, and left to take up space in the loft for years to come

I generally put my old games in the British Heart Foundation thing down the local tip. Games that were codes and can't be used anymore going into recycling.

Re: How do you dispose of your old games

You should keep them, don't forget as well a lot of Xbox 360 games are backwards compatible with the Xbox One / S, you need to put the disc in for them to register, Mass Effect 2 and 3 have just gone backwards, at the moment for example Im playing red dead redemption again, don't forget a lot of them will run better due to the newer hardware

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not bothered about selling them just want to free up some space but it feels wrong binning them.

    That's my solution.

I now need to move house .... somewhere with a bigger loft.

Despite suggesting giving them to people more deserving, which is the correct answer. I must admit I have hoarded every cassette, floppy disc, cartridge, CD DVD and Bluray (plus their respective functioning hardware) I have owned since I was about 5 years old.

My loft is literally full, so full that I can hear it creaking under the weight. I've started converting the cellar for additional storage.

    help me

Went through this myself, and my wife is TERRIBLE at hoarding old stuff for sentimental reasons.

We had VHS's and CD's filling the loft, in fact I think we've still got a load of music, old ornaments, teddies and random junk still up there

Re: How do you dispose of your old games

My technique is to leave them where they are until the missus complains that my stuff that I don't use is taking up too much room. I mutter under my breath about the bathroom being full of stuff she doesn't use, but that's fine. So I box it all up with a view to taking it to CEX, then when I see the prices that I would get for them, I sneak them into the loft when she's not looking.

5 years later, when we're having a clear out, I'll find it, plug it all in again and spend a couple of hours reminiscing, then find somewhere else to hide it.

Re: How do you dispose of your old games

I have a CD wallet and I bin the cases... I have quite a lot of old games disks and where they need the handbook I have those too.

    It's a minimal space/

and occassionally you need the old games

My 9 year old has just discovered Tekken Tag on PS2 and Quake 2 LAN on PC with me, Luigi's Mansion on Game Cube (but actually on Wii with Gamecube controller plugged in... backward compatibility for the win)

And We play Saturn Bomber Man on Sega Saturn too.

I usually either sell them on through eBay or if they're not worth much just trade them in at GAME or an online site like musicMagpie. Don't get a lot for them but it's convenient.
