Metal Gear Acid - Looks Great and Improved From Japanese Release.
Just watched a 10 minute presentation from Metal Gear Acid's director, Shinta Nojiri, from Konami's San Francisco-held Gamer's Day event, and I have to say, it was very impressive. The game seems to look and feel every bit as impressive as the previous Metal Gear games, on the 'full sized' consoles, but they have, in a stroke of genius, removed the random run-and-gun gameplay and replaced it with a card based battle system, with you then the enemy taking turns.
Its great seeing turn-based games in the Metal Gear style setting of Army Bases and the like. Hundereds of cards; everything from a simple run card or a fire card, to super-powered Metal Gear lazer attacks that kill everything on the screen. Looks very impressive.
And Nojiri announced (hopefully the start of a trend) that the US (and therefore the UK) release will be improved upon over the Japanese release by adding 2-Player wireless battle mode.
I strongly suggest everyone who has or will have a PSP come March to keep an eye out for this. Looks to be right up there with Gran Turismo 4 Mobile, GTA: PSP, and the Final Fantasy VII movie and follow-up game, as a big system seller. Although the FF7 game isn't due out till late 2005 \ early 2006.
The presentation is on the IGN.com Insiders channel, and I assume the GameSpot members area as well. Can probably be dug up from somewhere thats free to access though.
