It can be difficult buying a gaming PC as they aren't exactly cheap but thankfully are modular. Many years ago when I first started out and had little to no spare money I bought a part each week/fortnight. Thankfully PC's are modular, buy a bit every now and again and it will soon come together :)
Had my first 'modern' gaming experience in 2003, using a work PC.
It was 2012 before I had anything like a proper gaming PC... and even then, it was an old Q6600 on an LGA775. Radeon 4870, I think.
Just gotta save up and bide your time.

I started out with a low end Intel Celeron around 1998 and a S3 Savage card and something like 40Gb hard drive, I could only install 1 or 2 games at a time. I did eventually change over to an AMD Duron as couldn't afford the full price CPU's and got myself a Voodoo 3.
Start small so you have a working PC that can run games in lower resolutions and detail and go from there is the best way to do it
Also consider 2nd hand parts from reliable sources.
Aside from one GPU, following an insurance payout, all of my rig parts have been second hand. I paid more for my keyboard than my CPU!
You dont need much for ARMA 3, Just a decent i5 and a low end graphics card is enough.
I got an i3-540 in circa 2010 as a temporary stop-gap while I waited for the B2 sandy bridge issues to be resolved. Never could afford to upgrade since. It does my own gaming needs, but then I never had good enough internet for anything online, and when I did get that they give a lump of crap modem that can't hold a stable latency, so gaming isn't to be for me it seems.
You don't get something for nothing. But yeah, second hand components are a great way to get yourself on the ladder. Lots of people talk about all the things you need for gaming, but in reality, the only thing you need on a standard office-PC is a graphics card. And even then, you can flex the price with the framerate/quality. Coming from a console you're probably used to 30fps at not-quite HD with low resolution textures. Getting a graphics card that is comparable won't be that expensive.
But, post your budget and we can start picking parts for you.
i find amazon warehouse deals the best place for bargain components, you can send them back for any reason within 30 days too.
ARMA3 is very single threaded so a Pentium G4560 for around £53 would be a good starting point!!
I've just made the transition to a gaming PC and haven't looked back since. Good luck on the search :D

If the OP's waited seven months and still hasn't bought anything they can't have wanted a gaming PC that badly.... ;)
Right now I'd recommend Ryzen 3 over a second hand i5. Similar performance levels but a genuine upgrade path on AM4. Buy 2nd hand i5 now and you're looking at a new mobo (and probably RAM) when you want to upgrade....
