Re: Has your gaming taste changed as you've got older?

I've always been a mostly single player gamer, not really liking any sort of multiplayer game. I did use to play a lot of Call of Duty with my university friends, however, but that all ended long ago. In the last 6-7 years, I've gone from a 50:50 PC/Console gamer to more 90:10 in favour of PC. I haven't bought or per ordered either a new Xbox or PlayStation, instead I've decided to invest in a new computer and good GPU instead.

In terms of game purchases, the Game Pass and prior to that EA Access have transformed things, in that I now pay a monthly fee rather than buy games, which quite often were left languishing unplayed in my Steam library. I'm saving money, but still really enjoying games I do play, I guess that now I'm loathed to buy a game outright, that Game Pass is somewhat dictating what I play. The one major exception to this is Assassins Creed which I will still buy outright as the Uplay equivalent to Game Pass seemed very expensive when I last looked at it.

Most certainly. No more fast paced FPS for me, now its more strategy/tycoon games.

As I've got older and had more work and studies especially as a student, I've gone off competitive and multiplayer titles as I don't have the time to commit. I much prefer big singleplayer experiences, or short story-focused walking simulator/artsy games.

Re: Has your gaming taste changed as you've got older?

I went from playing a whole load of AAA games to playing many more weird and great Indie games. Interestingly now, I tend to toe a line between them. The main thing I've noticed though is how much more I'm happy fixating on one game for an extended period of time, especially since I don't have as much time to play it. I'm happy sitting on a multiplayer FPS for a couple months when I know playing something single player will be stop start in comparison,

I used to play a lot RPGs, but it's difficult to keep immersion when you're an adult with responsibilities.

So now it's easier for me to pop for a half an hour session of multiplayer shooter games like Destiny 2 or Paladins and then move on with whatever I was doing before that.

I still love story driven games with a mostly non fantasy drive behind it (though if it's not the main point then it doesn't affect my enjoyment).

I still play FPS like Call of Duty, but I rarely play that much anymore since I don't really have the time, and as a result my reaction speeds are poor lol. Also, enjoy single player, story driven games when I want a more relaxing experience.

Re: Has your gaming taste changed as you've got older?

I played a lot of adventure games from Lucasarts and the like as I really enjoyed the puzzles and the humour. I then had a big FPS phase with friends during university but nowadays I'm playing RPGs when I get the time as I do like the immersion, even though I don't get to play games as much as I used to.

Re: Has your gaming taste changed as you've got older?

Most of today's games are all the same. Rinse, recycle, repeat all the fancy graphics and the same monotonous drivel of mowing down one bad guy after another. Yawn! Probably why I've now gone back to playing older retro games that make you think. Also, the price of today's games is getting beyond ridiculous.

I find my reflexes are way to slow now for COD and Battlefield as I am an old timer now. I find I'm more drawn to open world games like Assassins Creed, I am hoping Cyberpunk 2077 is in a better state by the time I finish Valhalla.

of course, with age, the preferences for strategic games have changed, which do not require reflexes, but thinking, anticipation like chess

I dont think anyone's gaming taste really changes, that is just my POV because I loved FPS and I still love them. I loved story-oriented games, I still love them.

Re: Has your gaming taste changed as you've got older?

My preferences (taste) hasn't changed over the years, but my priority has.

I used to primarily play online FPS, with some open world and simulation on the side.
Now it's more primarily open world/simulation with FPS on the side.

Playing games that I can pause help when juggling restless kids.

Re: Has your gaming taste changed as you've got older?

Back on the Sega Master System and Megadrive, I played whatever I could get hold of. Once I got a PC and online, it was mostly FPS and then MMORPG once my reactions got too slow. I'm now mostly playing Metroidvanias and rogue-lites.
