Question The Chronicles of Riddick On PC

I've read a review for this game here, and it doesn't seem bad at all. Does anyone have the game who'd like to comment about it? Either good/bad? I prefer to ask real people than just rely on reviews .

I've played the XBOX version for a short time, so is the PC version much different?

Havnt played the X Box version, however been playing it on the PC for around the past week.

Must admit its a fantastic game allround, I'm down in the mines at the min so around 2 thirds the way through. It runs better than Doom 3 and has very similar lighting effects, first impressions you think it is the Doom 3 engine its running on, however it isnt, Starbreeze have created a whole new engine for this one. On Doom 3 I have to run it in 800x600 High Detail no AA or AF, this however runs in 1024x768 with everything on high settings and 2x AA (no AF though) and it looks amazing.

In places its a FPS but most the time its fun to sneak around in the dark, take the unsuspecting guards out by snapping their necks. Similar to Splinter Cell. They have even used Vin Diesel for the voice of Riddick so it has a great gritty feel to it.

Overall I have to say that this game has passed alot of people by (as did Enclave by Starbreeze, another amazing game). I had not really heard anything about it at all but quite enjoyed the movie and I read a review of it over at GamersHell for the PC.

It will give you a good few hours of play, you collect packs of cigs to unlock scenes from the movie so you get quite a good incentive to spend a bit of time doing all the side quests and collecting these. Well worth the money

I haven't seen or heard much of doom 3, so your references were wasted on me - nevermind .

What system specs have you got? Will it run on full with my system? Is it much different from XBOX version (graphics, gameplay etc)? I know you get a bit more like a scene to watch I think.

Had it sitting about for ages before installing it and wished I'd done it sooner. Everything from the graphics, voice acting, atmosphere is superb. There are loads of superb moments and you can try to be stealthy and sneak up behind enemies before killing them or take the gung-ho approach. At the start I thought it used the Doom3 engine as a lot of the textures and models have the same kind of feel, but later learned its their own engine. The developers can give themselves a hearty pat on the back because its simply amazing!!! There are also little details like bruises and cuts appearing on an ememy when youre fist fighting. Like Ferral says there is a load of additional material unlocked as you progress through the game and collect items. All in all I'd give it an easy 9/10

My spec is a Radeon 9600 Pro, XP Barton core 2500+, 1 Gb Crucial 333 ram and my board is a ASRock K7V88 (Takes the Semperon core chips as well as the XP chips)

So as you can see my system is a bit less than yours and it runs like that so you should have no probs at all.

Doom 3 was a complete system hog, yeah it looked great in the lower res but I like to run all my games in 1024x768 if poss (I can run Farcry in that res with most everything on high detail)

Also from what I believe, everything has been given a major overhaul since the X Box version. Its one of the great games out there that just doesnt seem to get any decent recognition so falls by the wayside.

I'm running it on a Shuttle SN85, with an AMD64 3000, a gig of Crucial DDR400 and a Herc 9800 pro all at stock speeds. It happily sits in 1024x768 with 4xaa and 8xaf with the model textures dropped a notch. There is a little slowdown in more open areas, but I can live with that. As for the extra bits in the game I think the PC version has an extra bit where you can walk about dressed as a guard, but I'm only about 1/2 way through and havent found anything like that yet.

Looks like I'll have to invest in this one esp as I have scratched my head bald with bordom waiting for the likes of BF2 and BIA to come out.

Theres only so much CoD UO, BF DC I can take and need something else to gain my limited attention span.

Cheapest place for this at the mo is Amazon @ £14.97

Definitely get it. If youre the type of person who likes the extras on DVDs then this is for you. You dont just get concept art, but videos etc, it really is good. The game is good too. It isnt groundbreaking, but it IS a lot of fun to play. Some nice little touches such as your view changing hue to blue when hidden etc, they all serve to enhance the game. Fighting really is great - you can put together some really great combos and is really good fun!

Well, I'd like to play mine (from what I've seen the graphics are great!), but it's not working. Please see my thread about it:
