    Driving Games with a Joystick

Now I am a devotee to joysticks for driving games. But ONLY for steering.

The braking and accelerator need to be, in my opinion, on buttons or maybe the throttle on the stick NOT by leaning thestick forward or backwards.

So WHY dont you get to use the hatswitch to lok around in the car, to see the other racers?

    I mean....COME ON...WTF is that about.

It would be AWESOME to look around you to see the people chasing you.

If its possible in plane games, it MUST be possbile on racing games.

AND while I'm on it, SAME RULES for motor bike games.

I mean, COME ON...joysticks are ideal for balancing a motor corss bike in mod air, or for compressing the rear suspension for a big jump...

    so why not look about.

DOES ANYONE know of a game that does it?

its waaay easier...the height of the stick gives you excellent control...ealy fine control

Just dont be tempted to use the lean forward/back for powrer/brake...its pants.

Use key (keyboard or base of the stick) for that, and use thumb buttons on the stick to change views....

way better and you can react muchs faster...left to right for opposite lock is much more accurate too.

I don't know if anyone here has played Live For Speed but imo it has the best control system I've used for cars - the mouse. You use the it as the wheel ( left to right) and the left and right are accelerate and brake respectively.

While is only a fairly small game at the moment available exclusively online for £12 (£24 soon as S2 - stage 2/3 of the development process is added) it got a very good score of around 90% in PCG and I give you my word after you get used to the demo you WILL love it.

I like the mouse for arcade driving games....

For sims you can't beat a wheel and pedals as long as you use them as a full set not the wheels without the pedals for example. You need good travel and range in the pedals, and button's cannot cut it.

Yup - I use my joystick for racing games works great in GTR.

I have left right as left right, then fire as accel, 2nd as break, throttle as break bias, other buttons as camera, pit in etc. - I still have gears on A, Z on the keyboard Works well.

use a MiS sidewinder pro jobbie in all my driving games, have it set very much the same way Zak33 does,......... I'm sure I played a driving game where you could use the pov- hatswitch to see behind you, just can't remember which game.

i always use a wheel now, but before i used a joystick to play such classic games as need for speed and it works great. you can bind back on the hat to look behind and such like that.

i just prefer a wheel now mind, as long as its a good one.

odd.. can't get on with using buttons for go/stop... have to use forward back - gives you analogue control over braking and acceleration... I like feathering the throttle so I can powerslide in GPL properly.. use the actual throttle control (if I have one) clutch (GPL, GTR etc) and the buttons, fire for change up, thumb for change down... I have a special "racing" stick, only got 2 buttons and a throttle, gameport stylee demon stylee with it
