    Battletech

Anyone else hooked on this like I am? Up to 87 hours now already!

Really enjoying it and it is everything I hoped it would be and a bit more.

Sure it could have been a bit more polished on release but I've been absorbed by it like no other recent game.

I really really liked the MechCommander games. I think they were by Microsoft. Some of the best games I've ever played.

So I thank you for informing me of this game. I'll wait a while before any purchase though, since I hardly ever seem to game any more. I bought the new Doom for example (mainly for the eye candy), and I've spent less than an hour on it. I've had it many months...

Not yet, was going to get it for the weekend RL issues got in the way.
Watched a bit of youtube on it to see if it was the game I hoped it would be and looks like it.
But I'm stopping myself watching any more because I want to play it.

Shame it's not got a full mech lab, by full I mean changing the reactor, putting weapons any place there's room, seeing the full internal points.
No small laser boats for me although it only really worked for clan mechs.

The Heat system seems a little overly simplified, although I've not played the tabletop/board game in a long time so it might be a more accurate reflection of the current game.

Do the vehicles ever get to the really big ones? in the tabletop tracked vehicles could hit 200tons which would make them scary to any mech even assault mechs

Yes I loved the Mech Commander games, although its been over a decade since I played any of them. If you can wait I would, while the game is excellent there are performance and quality of life updates on the way. The biggest problem with the game is even for someone like myself who enjoys slow paced games is doing some missions can become very time consuming, especially if the enemy have a lot of turrets, vehicles as well as mechs. Plus if you wait you'll save yourself some money as the price of the game drops.

It is a bit over simplified but I think that is just the nature of games these days, trying to appeal to the widest audience. I think they do have plans for more stuff in the future, so if it sells well I suspect we'll see some expansion packs with new campaign missions, mechs maybe even some new mechanics like electronic warfare.

As per your question yes, the vehicles can get heavy and very powerful. While alone they don't stand much of a chance in groups or as harassors while you are distracted they can trouble even the heavy and assault mechs especially with the stability mechanic. They don't get up to 200 tons that I've seen but even so some of them especially I tend to focus down even over medium mechs. They can pack quite a bit of armour and don't have a stability rating so LRMs, SRMs are fairly ineffective and in certain situations can make them hard to kill but with the right weapons they can be one/two shot. I've found the Demolisher (which I assume mounts dual AC/20) packs quite a punch along with LRM/SRM carriers which can prove very problematic. They can surprise you with the volume of fire.

The best part of the game for me is the salvage; coming across that new shiny assault mech you've always wanted by chance and working up a plan to take it down in one piece and survive. Usually by either knocking it down repeatedly with LRMs, focusing the head or legs is great mechanic. It is the sort of thing that drew me to classics like Soldiers of Anarchy.

    Be strong!

If not the biggest tip I can give you from a performance point of view is make sure to move all but your current few saves periodically into a folder, doesn't seem to matter which folder either (disable Steam cloud save as well unless you do it while the game is running or Steam will just replace the files). Once you acquire a lot of saves the game starts to take a lot longer and longer to not only load save games, but also to perform certain actions like confirm a refit on a mech and it can become a bit of an issue.

On Steam the folder is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[STEAMID]\637090\remote\C0\SGS1

Thoroughly enjoying the game but $deity it needs a proper tutorial. Shouldn't need to rely on YouTube to teach you game mechanics.

Finished the campaign today. 54 hours of play. Think I got my money's worth.
FWIW I thought the difficulty was fine, but I have played MechWarrior games before, and I play a fair bit of XCOM.

Never tried the PvP yet, to be honest I'm still struggling in the campaign. I'm winning but while the game has loads of depth it doesn't explain it well. I struggle in particular with constructing loadouts.

There are loads of online resources for finding "optimum" loadouts but I don't want to do that. I just need to find somewhere that explains what sort of things to look for/consider rather than "copy this build."

    Any suggestions?

I kinda just jumped into pvp straight away and have picked up the basics. So I'm clearly no expert but really enjoy pvp in any game just for the fun. I will jump into the campaign at some point though.
