has anyone played the demo, its so good, Ive never played a game that gives the this level of realism and feeling of movement and speed, but also complete control of the car with wheel and most importantly the throttle, its brilliant!

    Best time with GT car : 2:14.21 in demo/semi pro/no aids/playstation controller.

Ps2 controller is very good in this game

You'd be suprised how good the analog sticks on ps2 controller are, very subtle control is achievable. Its testament to how good the design is.

The ps2 usb adapter is only 5quid, the ff doesnt work though which is annoying I think I got a bad one because most reviews say ff on dualshock works. Id still recommend it if space is an issue and perhaps money too.

You can't beat a wheel on this, force feedback or not.

I've just got a normall wheel - no FFB, but it makes the game that bit more accessible. Nonetheless, anyone who hasn't played a "real" simulation like this is going to struggle. A friend of mine had a go, and ...... it was the scenic route he was taking!

Whats your best time on demo, have you beaten 2.14 with your wheel, I reckon a wheel is better than keys, joystick and most gamepad, but ps2 analog sticks gives as much control as non ff wheel, perhaps even better for most ppl not used to balancing throttle with their foot!! Its a real tough skill.

FF Wheel wins hands down for realism (obviously) but I reckon Id beat most ppl with my trusty pad.

I couldn't tell you what the times are to be honest, I'll have a go round spa in the Saleen S7 this evening to check it. I'm not exactly a race sim nut, and certainly don't pretend to be the next Shumacher, but I played the demo and got hooked.

As game pads go, there is no competition, the PS2 pad rules the roost by a country mile. For those people that live with a PS2 pad in their had then, as you said, this might be a better solution. But anyone that drives is going to get on fine with a wheel and pedals, making the car "go" with your right foot isn't going to test anyones coordination.

FFB is the best for realism as you said, but if you are looking for an imersive and realistic simulation, a wheel (FFB or not) is going to provide this - how many GT cars are actually controlled with a pad?

Ultimately its a question of personal preference, I'm quite happy with a pad on the driving games on my PS2 - but on GTR on my PC, it's gotta be a wheel plain and simple.

What?? making the car "go"? You are 100% incorrect this is extremely challenging and what makes this game AMAZING!!! Have you played GTR on Professional or Semi Pro w/out aids, this will test everyones feet coordination, balancing the throttle and brake is what this game is so good at (possibly the best racing game ever for throttle balance!!!). If you play on Arcade sure its a piece of piss, try it w/out aids and youl see how hard making the car "go" is!!

How many cars are controlled by looking through a single 17inch monitor? You seem to have missed my point, driving a GTR car is about balancing the throttle/brake/clutch/steering input, this is much easier to achieve for the average gamer with a PS2 analog joypad (not dpad, the analog stick!!) than a steering wheel (and requires a lot less physical effort and foot co-ordination!!!!! I know I have both joypad and ff wheel!).

Anyway to sum it up I find my Joypad gives me more ability to balance throttle (im not a pro driver) than my pedals do without building up a serios sweat!!

Im not trying to be rude fatboy but you should try turning off all the aids and driving on professional and then talk to me about realism!!

Im sorry but anyone reading this who has played GTR seriously will have lost faith in all your comments after this one. Saying "Anyone who drives a car will have no problem feathering the throttle of an 800bhp lister storm" with NO driving aids is plain and simple poppy cock.

Not trying to be difficult but I felt I have made several good points about analogue gamepad in my last post, you chose to ignore them and repeat something I said to you, ala "I know you are but what am I", I think the debate is over!

Yea of course it is but your personal preference might be based on incorrect assumptions like you: making the car "go" with your right foot isn't going to test anyones coordination.

Ok Ill stop this thread before it gets silly and get back to playing the real game, just got it, unfortunately its just crashed though... damn it.

    ....erm yeah, okay ......

Feathering the throttle with either control method isn't going to come naturally to everyone. Some will prefer a stick, others will prefer pedals. What I was saying that was that if people drive a car, using pedals is going to be second nature (hence the not bothering peoples coordination). There is going to be an issue with feathering the throttle, but that is going to boil down to a lack of experience, not one of coordination. Hence, as I said, no-one is going to have problems with a foot controled throttle - but yes, effective use of the throttle is a different story.

Joypad or pedals, analogue control is paramount for this game, whatever form that may take.

....and yes, enough of this .... the number of laps I've wasted .....
