Did you rank worse at your favourite online game over Christmas/Newyear? Cos I did

Up until about mid December '19, I had been steadily improving my ability on my favourite online game - Minion Master
Every month, the game resets and you start at a low ranking and fight back through Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and into Master.. and I always make it to Master. Have done for over a year. It's a matter of pride. Adapt and learn the new pieces/cards, I don't buy them, I wait and earn then and use previous seasons cards

But then, as Christmas '19 holidays, struck, frankly.. I started getting outclassed and moving through to New Year I was slipping down rankings.

I openly admit to not watching any YouTube tutorials and I never visit the website t see what the latest patched versions offer - I don't have enough gaming time to waste it watching other people play. I learn as I play and have done for over 2 years.
And it's very apparent that the standards of players improved over Christmas and it's continued through into February, where it restarts and i whip up through the lower ranks and then.... it got super tough again which is excellent for learning, but crap for rankings.. and I can't get past Diamond level 4 (need to go through Diamond 3 then 2, then 1 and finally into Master)

I truly enjoy this game - it's simple and challenging. But it's also got a lot of buyable stuff and as I refuse to buy anything, and earn all my ingame currency, I expect to never get really good. I don't have the time.. but I do have..(sorry.. I thought I had) the skills to get to Master every month.

Did anyone else get hammered over the Christmas to New Year period on games that they considered themselves fairly good at, as the online opposition improved?

Yeah Destiny 2 on PS4. I did used to be pretty good on it with a decent ratio on multiplayer but for some reason since around November last year can't hit a barn door with a banjo type thing!

Sticking to single player at the moment and going through the Master Chief Collection on XBox, I am thinking once I get through HALO 4 so I can uninstall it to save some space and start HALO 5 I will probably give the multiplayer a go on that.

Luckly the thing for me, in Minion Masters is that it's not a reaction speed thing, so it's not old age
AND experience and helps a great deal. I often absorb a load of damage knowing I can still pull a win.
I never ever quit a game even if i KNOW part way through, that I will lose.. I always fight to the end.. though the trend to quit is very popular at the moment in Minion Masters.

But the sheer quality of players, combos of their decks and the new cards utterly flattened me since mid Dec.

I started a new game for me: Beat saber.

Watching my daughter play I realise I will never be good as I am too old and slow. Still enjoy it though

last night, I stripped half my regular decks down, and started from fresh with 4 new combo's and ended up with 3 that I like a lot.

But the quality of player is still much higher than late 2019 and it's nhot people buying news cards..there are only a few I don't have.

I Honestly haven't played that much as of late 2 hours a week at best, got the rank on new years day. I have no doubt it was the influx of kids who got PCs for Christmas that allowed me to get it though.

I guess with a game that popular maybe you were surrounded by noobs.. hopefully though it was just that you got good

In my case I think all the noobs I was beating in Q4 '19 got time to practice more and smashed my face in the dirt
