    Gaming Headset Suggestions.

    Hi all,

I currently have HyperX Cloud II, randomly the mic will stop working and i have to remove it from usb and plug it back in, I have even reinstalled windows 10.

So i'm looking for suggestion on headsets that connect via 3.5mm, my mobo is z390 Aorus Master.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thank god, a tech question!

Personally I have had the HyperX Cloud II and never had any issues with it but can appreciate when things go wrong you can lose faith in it. There was a firmware upgrade at somepoint for the Cloud II, have you tried that?

    Whats your budget?

Budget for new headset £0-£200. My mobo has the yellow DAC usb, i've tried my HyperX Cloud II in all the usb, I also have a wired xbox one controller which turns of whilst in use lol.

really this should be in the Gaming section, not General Discussion, so I will redirect it and leave a redirect link for a few days

There is a thread in the tech section I noticed so looks like its a double post, might be easier to merge the threads?

    Re: Gaming Headset Suggestions.

Guess it boils down to what you want most out of your audio set up - convenience, audio quality for just gaming, audio quality for all uses.

Audiophiles have researched quite a bit and found that gaming headsets are inferior to proper headphones combined with a separate mic. Headsets do have the benefit of convenience and if that's what you want, fair enough. Rtings website has very good reviews and comparisons of headsets and headphones. They give scores out of 10 for many categories, so it's easy to organise lists looking at most comfortable, best neutral audio, gaming audio etc. Head-fi is where all the real audiophiles seem to go for discussion, so it's a good place if you want to disappear down the rabbit hole.

I've been using my phone as a mic via bluetooth (Womic app) and decided there's no need to get a dedicated mic. Everything I play uses push to talk, but if you were to go open mic then this setup wouldn't be viable.

If you value a high quality output and comfort, I would recommend the Arctis 7

Take a look at the Cooler Master MH751/752. Cheap and really well reviewed for them price (around £70).

Adding a mod mic to my JD 558's is the best thing I ever done. I recommended anyone add a mic to their fave headphones instated of a dedicated gaming headset.

I'd agree with this - Steel series make some of the best gaming headsets around, with good mics, comfort and sound.

I would however be a little careful with reviews and make sure that you get a headset that suits the use case. I found that my "high end" headphones sounds great for music, but distinctly average for games, lacking something particularly at the lower end. Conversely, i have the Arctis pro wireless setup and they are stunning for games (one setup and equalised) but very average for music.

Most "gaming" focused headsets are reviewed with games in mind, and most audiophile headsets with music in mind...may seem obvious to say, but worth pointing out! I would avoid any audiophiles advice on gaming headsets for this reason - you'll find most tell you that "all gaming headsets are rubbish" or similar wild claims, without keeping in mind the target audience and audio source
