    Xbox Series S Officially revealed - $299

    Smallest Xbox ever apparently.

    https://twitter.com/Xbox/status/1303...033880576?s=20

Reminder - this is significantly faster than XB1X despite being 4TF vs 6TF.

I personally think the black fan cover looks bad.

    It isn't confirmed, but:

    Significantly faster CPU
    Significantly faster I/O
A GPU that is faster + comes with all the enhancements from the upcoming generation/RNDA2 arch.

Re: Xbox Series S Officially revealed - $299

Ah right just that you said significantly faster so assumed there had been some new info

Sky did a story where the verge says it will run a bit slower than the xbox one x - https://news.sky.com/story/microsoft...-leak-12066485

However the Verge say even though it runs slower it should be far more capable than the one x so hmm I certainly hope it will be a lot quicker as that is a good price point, especially as my sons monitor is only 1080

    Edit : Verge story - https://www.theverge.com/2020/9/7/21...-leak-lockhart

The raw TF numbers aren't comparable as they're two difference architectures, with the XSS having the newer RNDA2 GPU + MS' own enhancements. The XSS will be faster without a doubt.

I epected them to price it more highly, but it wouldn't surprise me if they subsidised the cost of the hardware due to it being a digital-only edition as they can make their money on selling the games themselves through the Xbox digital storefront and/or subscriptions such as GamePass.

    That's exactly what it is.

I did mention it in another thread but Sony reported the life-time value of customers on PS4 is $1600 on average. Obviously all of this isn't services and games through their store but if you can get an extra 30% cut it does add up.

This is also why I'd expect a £/$100 difference between PS5D and PS5 editions as if it is any less the value prop of PS5D becomes less for the consumer and drastically less for Sony.

No doubt the lootbox purchasers helped there.

That certainly seems logical - time will tell of course as to whether their logic matches.

If the Verge said it, then it's probably not true. They are as bad as Techradar these days.

They ruined their credibility after they released "that" video and then when you start looking into some of the rest of their content, you start to see holes in it all over the place. Can't trust anything they publish anymore, which is a shame as they used to have some good writers.

Back OT though, i'd be tempted by an S really. I don't need a Series X (I can count the hours spent on my Xbox one X after finishing RDR2 on one hand....) and with MS committing to releasing most if not all of their first party games on PC too, the need has dropped significantly.

I do like to have a console though for the odd occasion where couch co-op is an option or I just fancy playing a game on the big screen. I'd consider a PS5 but its far too ugly to put in my living room sadly...this one I could hide away quite easily and it would do the job!
