Sony Removes Cyberpunk 2077 From PlayStation Store

Guess the problems on consoles are really bad:

It even made it to BBC News:
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55359568

Glad I never believe any hype and jump in before the game is released. CDPR has likely burned the trust of a lot of people by releasing this game on last gen consoles at this state.

I am not too worried about the issues, have seen a few but its not the end of the world, I have stopped playing for the moment and will come back to it after a few patches and start the game again

I don't think hype has much to do with it - hype can't tell you anything about performance or polish of a game, but I agree with you that I'm glad I waited - for me I decided I was going to as soon as they broke their promise about not making developers crunch on the game. Take the time to get it right without burning out your employees and then you'll get my money.

Re: Sony Removes Cyberpunk 2077 From PlayStation Store

@Jonj1611 yeah, tend to be what I normally do as well if I buy a game too early. I made the mistake of buying Mount & Blade II Bannerlord when it came on early access because of all the vids I saw of it. Plus loved Warband. But then got burnt out as too many problems, and certain patches breaking the current gameplay. Might play it again in a few years when it's officially released.

Also I know PC is not as bad, the problems seem to be affecting last gen consoles a lot more.

@kalniel But hype can make people buy the game, and that's what I was trying to say. Last week pretty much every Twitch channel I've seen, even ones that cover speciality games like Factorio, were playing Cyberpunk 2077. This can convince people who were on the fence to buy it, and some are likely to be console gamers. It's not a good look if it's broken.

The crunch is what I feel will happen for the devs in CDPR now and it'll likely be a hard Christmas for those devs. I guess it must've been a management decision to release it at this state. And sure games do get better over time, but not a lot of them can brush off the the stain of the initial release. See Fallout 79 and No Man's Sky (which I got years later after several patches and thoroughly enjoyed the 110 hours I played in it). Both these games still have the stigma of being broken on release, at least in the general public's view.

but you're not the only one who buys games, remember the uproar and death threats cdpr were getting not that long ago because they delayed cp2077 by 3 weeks?

Don't get me wrong the whole crunch culture is bad, but the whole industry culture is based around it, there are so many conditions, restrictions, financial obligations, contracts and agreements involved in the production of AAA games that make it very difficult and costly to delay games and the more you try to delay and the closer to the release date the more difficult it becomes.

remember back to fallout new vegas, Obsidian earned no royalties because the meta-critic score was 1% below an average of 85%, that was contract, it was very buggy on launch because it had an agreed launch window if they missed it there would of been penalty clauses which meant the studio would of lost money on it, so out the door it goes and patch it later or delay and the studio goes bankrupt, which do you choose?

Now cdpr has a big advantage here because they don't have a publisher but they still have other contractual obligations, when you want to release a game on a console you have to have an agreement with the platform holder and part of that agreement is a release window, if you want to delay past that window you have to renegotiate and they might say "no"

True. But all I can influence is my purchasing power and the reasons behind it. Collective action is still made up of individuals after all, and if enough people make anti-crunch part of their buying decision then eventually people up the chain will listen and chose to get better at predicting workloads (this is a problem in most software development I know, it's not restricted to video games, but you can get good at it) and then design featureset/release schedule accordingly.

yeah I just saw this. It's about time the dev companies get made to release finished games and not beta versions.

Re: Sony Removes Cyberpunk 2077 From PlayStation Store

I haven't been following this closely, but I've read a theory elsewhere that makes a lot of sense.

CD Projekt saying to customers that Sony will refund them caused Sony to become inundated with refund requests which took them by surprise. They didn't talk to Sony about that, and bear in mind that Sony doesn't typically do refunds on games. As a show of their power, Sony unleashed hell on them - it serves as a warning to other publishers who might have ideas in the future too. CD Projekt won't be cashing in on those Christmas sales now.

Re: Sony Removes Cyberpunk 2077 From PlayStation Store

    I'm not at all surprised.

Why are people expecting a 2020 AAA game to run on the last gen consoles?
They were obsolete at the time of release, let alone 7 years later!

Cyberpunk runs fine on my 2080 Super

Well, when a 2020 AAA game that has been hyped up to the wazoo can't even do things that Rockstar games got sorted a decade ago, it makes you wonder what quality bar "elite" pc gamers set for their games. All with the pleasure of running a £1500 system.

@mods can we merge this thread with the unofficial one? It seems weird to be running two simultaneous topics on the exact same thing!

Because it was released on last gen and people were being charged a lot of money to buy it. Usually you don't sell something for a system if it can't run on it.

Good idea, I wouldn't like to continue playing with all these bugs, it would just ruin the experience for me. Rumor has it that they are working on a patch to fix major issues by February.
