Is geforce now actually any good?

Going to have to be away from my gaming pc for a while, so looking at using geforce now to use my work laptop as a way to still play some games while I'm away, but the question is, is it actually worth doing it? Where I'm going to will have decent internet.

I haven't used it myself, completely forgot about it to be honest. Would be interesting to hear from anyone that does use it. Can see it being handy in certain situations

The best answer to this question will be to try it for yourself and see if it is up to your standards.

You could also try GamePass too for an alternative streaming service?

Re: Is geforce now actually any good?

the major issue with all cloud streaming services is internet connection, doesn't matter how good a service is if it's a connection issue.

One of the major issues is that it's a combination of speed & latency so you need high bandwidth and low ping between you and the service, I'm not sure if there's a way to test any service except by a free trial, if one is available, and if you're moving location then something that works well in location A might not work well in Location B

so the answer to "any good" is depends, depends on your definition of good and your connection at all the potential locations you plan to use it, also depends of the type of games you play.
eg a turn based strategy game will be less dependent than a fast paced fps that requires low latency for accurate fire.

Re: Is geforce now actually any good?

You sound like one of the few justifiable use cases for something like Geforce now.

I tried it and didn't like it, but my internet feels like 2 pensioners either side of a village flashing binary to each other with torches on a sunny day, before dictating the digits to their hard-of-hearing wives, who then write it down with a faded biro held in their mouth, before sending it second class to my ISP. Then the response is sent via Hermes to my neighbour. Who is only home between 3 and 3:05 AM.

From what I've seen of other reviews of the service, is it's one of the better streaming services, if you have a quick and low latency connection. Definitely try out competitors if you can, though.

Re: Is geforce now actually any good?

I tried it a few months ago, and got some quite bad packet loss every few minutes. Weirdly, restricting my LAN adapter to 10mbps helped to reduce the severity of the packet loss (you can view in in game with an overlay).

I tried to use it on my TV but I was able to log on and select a game which would then try to start but wouldn't make it past the initial screens.

Re: Is geforce now actually any good?

It seems to be targeted at streaming on-the-go, but given how bandwidth intensive it is, I wouldn't recommend it if you have unstable/poor connection
Tried it a few times on home fibre with okay speeds. It would recommend a low bitrate reason which I found odd.
