Also worth checking prices against the Humble Store's current sale too, especially if you are a Choice subscriber as you could have more of a discount.

Just noticed that, as I was going to get something that was in the Black Friday deals. Looks like it's too late (only set up the Steam account late last night and been busy all day).
Drat.
Also been looking at Humble. Not so sure about Choice as I doubt I'd use it enough to justify it, but .... dunno.
PS. Just checked, Doom Eternal Deluxe is still on sale. Phew. Unless it is a permanent 'sale'?
The Steam sale will be on for about a week
The Humble one until Dec 2
Its probably about that price normally if you buy a key from cd keys or somewhere but steam is always more pricey. Don't know about Humble
I'm not sure I'd have bothered with Choice if I wasn't already on the Classic plan due to being changed over from its predecessor of Monthly, but I keep it going (not even pausing it) as I like to keep collecting lots of choices of games for my Steam library (although some also have DRM-Free or alternative launcher versions at times of course).
I mostly pointed out the additional discount Choice provides (if applicable, as that's not always the case, or not always fully the case) as handy if someone is already subscribed to it. Although you do have the option of sacrificing some or all of your additional discount for an increased cut to charity instead of course.
There are still times where Steam itself is still the cheaper option in comparison despite that though, so it's always worth comparing carefully.
I can't comment on CD Keys or most similar sites as I've never used them.
Ah, yeah, legacy upgrades are good. I must admit, having had stone age PCs for some years, not capable of running modern games at decent settings I just hadn't bothered really even looking at Humble, 'cos I haven't been buying "new" games, just catching up on unplayed oldies at a quid or two each, on GoG.
Reading up on Choice I was pleased to see the mindset of grandfathering existing subscribers in like that. It's a shame to have missed out on being in on that, though it's not the first time. But it is an approach I admire. I guess I'd prefer not to have seen it kinda monetarised at all but even with the charity aspect of Humble (great marketing, that) reality does set in once that kind of scheme hits a serious scale, so it's inevitable, I guess.
@saracen greenmangaming have doom eternal for £11.89 for the next 13 hours at least. https://www.greenmangaming.com/games...xe-edition-pc/
fanatical has it for £12.46 for another 7 days https://www.fanatical.com/en/game/do...deluxe-edition
and theres occasionaly some real cheap stuff in the fanatical bundles https://www.fanatical.com/en/bundle
picked up tropico 4 + all dlc for £1 a few weeks ago. skyrim special edition for £7.69 from fanatical and xcom 2 collectors for £5.76 at greenmangaming last week.
something you may notice and have no idea how it works, like i dont, is steam bundle pricing if you've already got 1 or 2 from the bundle. for example.

dont know how that happens
(im assuming you can see the 2 images above, did have problem ages ago where images i linked didnt get seen by everyone, no idea if that fixed)
Thanks for the heads-up, Stevie.
Yes, I can see the images. I don't know how it works either, but I'm convinced lots of companies track everything they can about us and 'manipulate' it.
I posted about Amazon price changes a year or two back. Based on nothing but hypotheses from my own experience, I cncluded the following :-
- the more you respond to price changes, the more you get.
Having bought a few things when prices change, the rate of getting price "adjustment" notifications rocketed up. Sometimes, half a dozen times a day, on each of maybe a dozen items.
I also noticed that if you didn't bite, and a product sat in your basket while you "watched" for a while, items that wee higjhly volatile stopped changing at all.
I haven't bought much on Amazon recently, and some items (12TB WD MyBook, for example) that were changing several times a week, have now changed maybe twice in 3 months .... after I bought four (for the NAS). That said, I paid about £40 less per unit than they are now.
I suspect they are tracking a range of factors like average daily/monthly spend, how long you've been 'watching' something, how often you "bite" on a price change, etc. It sees to be geared towards enticing you to buy now, but not tempting you to 'wait longer'. It is speculation, though.
I guess Steam are doing something similar.
As for Doom Ultimate, those prices are good. Not sure I'm ready to buy in 12 hours or so but 7 days? Probably. My guess is most of these companies watch each other, like supermarkets do, and respond to "sales". Though, I'm not sure how much of a sale their sales really are. Having not been buying many games for years, my guess is a fair element of artificialy high "normal" price.
You know the trick .... I want to sell this widget at £10. So I offer it for a bit at £40 and if anyone is stupid enough or desperate enough, great. Then, I offer a 75% off price, of £10 .... which is what I wanted anyway. Great price, innit? How many do you want? :D
Then, rinse and repeat. I've certainly often seen many items have that kind of regular "sale".
Not quite a popular one, though it is getting better apparently, I grabbed BF 2042 for £16.49 on Steam - if anyone decides to get it DO NOT be tempted by the Ultimate edition at £49.99, it's cosmetic only. A friend of mine fell for it thinking it was the traditional Premium Pass, but it's not

And of course this time next month will be the Steam Winter Sale, which could be cheaper.
I have seen it played and it does attract me.
However .... all the EA activation stuff doesn't. Oh, well.
On the Steam Deck, maybe but I very much doubt it.
On games, very possibly but on the stuff I'm looking at, it can't make much difference. When a game is suposedly 75% off (e.g. £15 not £60, or whatever) that gets my attention. But if it's a quid or two less than £10-£15, well, I'll take it but don't really much care.
I'll get Doom because I've been playing that series since Castle Wolfenstein / Commander Keen days in hte early 80s. Pretty much anything else, though, I won't be paying the £50+ end anyway. I'll just wait until it does come up in a sale. Might pick up a few cheapies in the meantime.
Picked up Titanfall 2 (£4) and firewatch (£4.18)
Trying not to spend too much more

And yeah, I had a bit of a session on GoG a few months back, with pretty much the entire Doom/Quake range short of Ultimate, most of Thief series, Witcher, and a host more. Ended up with, IIRC, about £30 games. But still only spent about £35 in total. When they're that cheap it's easy to get seduced into "just a quid or two more".
Wondered about Titanfall 2, I only played the beta of TF1 and enjoyed it but I now worry that 2 by now hasn't got a player base.
Yes, actually I thought the Autumn sale had been but there we go. According to Is there any deal, £16.49 is the lowest it's ever been.
I will say I won't be too gutted should it fall further as I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit. BF4 Vibes. I've only played a handful of maps so far.
Couple of hit & miss but otherwise not bad. Still have a lot of the game to explore, glad to see rush is still a mode along with custom servers.
Agreed I resisted Steam in the early days and then fell for it's charm, then all the others came along and I just gave in.
Thank goodness it's not as bad as COD when it comes to all the policies you have to agree to, yes they do listen in and they class 'damn' as a negative word...
Good to know. Thanks.
Maybe I ought to just give in to temptation. So far, the extent of my giving in (to Steam) is opening an account, using an email that isn't a direct link, but this whole thing has been about Steam Deck which, it has to be said, is a very attractive proposition for me. If I commit to that kind of expenditure, I am kind-of "all-in", so might as well emulate a duck finding a nice pond.
