Wipeout Pure is the best game out at the moment, in my opinion. Lumines is very cool if you like puzzle games too.
Ridge Racer is supposed to be good too.
Beyond that, I've got Tony Hawks Blah Blah Blah (decent enough) and the Wayne Gretsky Hockey game that they thrown in with the value pack (and it's utter pants).
Gamer Tab is my favourite guide to buying new games these days.
If you're going for the value pack (and I think that it's worth it), then watch out. Only the first million include Spiderman 2 on UMD, so make sure you get one with the correct sticker on it.
I've already got the PSP, bought a Jap one back in Jan
Might try and grab Tiger Woods as well.
waiting for fifa
I'd say for a good bit of racing action you really are not going to go wrong with Wipeout Pure (9.3 IGN - 8.8 Gamespot) and Ridge Racer (9.1 IGN - 8.3 Gamespot). Both quality racing games, both look great.
For quality puzzle-based action, Lumines (8.6 IGN - 9.0 Gamespot) is brilliant, simple and addictive, and Mercury (7.7 IGN - 7.8 Gamespot) is also great, very much in the Super Monkey Ball mode, minus the monkeys.
For general goodness, have to recommend Metal Gear Acid (6.5 IGN - 8.2 Gamespot), ignore the low IGN review score, it was clear the reviewer had some rather strange reasons for marking it down, and the Gamespot score (who are normally a lot stricter on scoring than IGN) is much closer to an accurate one.
Also Tiger Woods PGA Tour (IGN 7.6 - Gamespot 8.2) for a great non-crappy-American sports game.
Apart from those few, you have some very average and best avoided beat-em-ups, and some apparently very good American sports games (good, but automatically crappy, as lets face it, its still Baseball \ Ice Hockey).
So, I'd get Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racers, Metal Gear Acid, Lumines, Mercury and Tiger Woods. Give you a nice mix of action, sports, puzzle and racing games to be going on with. Grab a 1gb ProDuo card on the cheap and some decent earphones, and Roberts your Fathers Brother.
I've not played all of those games, but I'm sure they are the ones to own, from reviews, play time, etc, so far.
Bought my PSP in Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago - Ridge Racer is excellent although I can't get in to Metal Gear Acid - I'll probably sell it.
Athlon 64 FX55, Asus A8N-SLI motherboard, 1 GB TwinX Corsair, X850 XT PE, 200GB Caviar, (also second 200GB HD), 16x AOPEN DVD ROM, Nec DVD RW, Creative Audigy 2 ZS, XP Home, Wavemaster Coolmaster case, 20.1" Dell 2005FPW, Altec Lansing 2100 speakers
does the PAL/NTSC thing not count for PSP's then?
Nope, there's no PAL/NTSC issue since it doesn't use a TV screen and the games aren't even region encoded.
The only slight issue is UMD movie discs, which are region encoded. There's no way that I'd consider buying a movie on UMD, especially when I can buy the proper DVD and rip it to a memory card to play on my PSP.
Need For Speed Underground Rivals looks good. And that new Mercury game,.
I think I'l just try and grab as many as I can afford and then sell the ones I don't want on ebay or here.
Drop me a PM when you come to sell the ones you don't want to keep mate.Originally Posted by CocoPops
