yup i play it with a few friends, tis an awesome simulation, its not a game, so saying its a bad game is wrong, its not GT4 and the realism is immense.

The constant rush you get form this game is seeing your lap times drop and your finishing positions increase, you get a real buzz

Exactly fragge that is how I feel. I am gonna buy the real game soon. I have the demo so far and boy its fun! I need to get some pedals adn stuff cause gassing out of the corners with the pedal to the metal cause of the keyboard is kinda tough!

no wonder its hard for you if your using a keyboard lol

for this you definitly need a steering wheel or a joystick, the key to quicker lap times is modulation of throttle and braking

last night by realising i should keep half revs through corners to increase my acceleration away from them took a second off my pb at monza

    best racing simulation....ever

if you're an NFSU kiddie don't bother with GTR you won't like it.
although if you do, try and join a league. you'll get much better close racing, and you wont get retards like you do on the public servers. I'm in the sim-challenge league driving for driversemporium.com racing. 1.5 hour races, changable weather and a couple of WR laptime holders too... 'ave it

hehe, i'm using my modded xbox controller, and i'm using accelleration and braking as the right analog stick.. so i can control it easily, then using the left analog stick for streering

I said that because i see it as a simulator and i dont see how a simulator can be a game. A simulator is a 'wanna be' of real life. Real life driving isn't a game.

Just my oppinion. I actually managed to get some great times on the demo in the 360 modena. Managed to beat other cars by about a minute+ on a 5 lap race

Il2 is a very competent ww2 air combat simulator. It is also a great game. So sims can be games.
Another example would be silent hunter 3 - a ww2 sub sim and yet look at the thread about it - its a jolly good game too.
Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.

i dont see how a simulator can be a game
Definition of game: "An activity providing entertainment or amusement; a pastime: party games; word games"

I think GTR qualifies. Just because it happens to be more realistic than GT4 or NFS is irrelevant. I think what ben is saying is that it isnt that polished a game, i.e the UI can be a bit confusing etc. But if you buy games for the UI dont get it!

About the actual game it is the best racer so far, I just completed a 2.5 hour race (at spa) and only won because my pitstop strategy was better than the computer and I had worked on my setup during the practise sessions. Thats what motor racing is about, not the UI, in all brilliant.

ps im using ps2 analog sticks, less effort than wheel, still nice control tho.

But racing cars in real life is a game as such. So it's a simulator of a game. And thus the better the simulator, the better and more of a game it get's. No?

    I'll get me coat...

I think it is a simulator and it is a racing sim at that. Also I think it to be a fun game because it challenges you a lot. I tried playing the gaem with all the traction control, abs and stability off and using the keyboard, the saleen's 1st and 2nd gears are unusable!! The best time I have gotten on the modena at spa is like a 234 probably.... I need them wheel and pedals setup...I need a fast computer...desktop since I been playing this on my laptop!!

If you have a ps2 controller then try getting a ps2 controller -> usb adapter, they ave em in game for under a tenner. Much cheaper/easier than wheels, highly recommended, have beaten comp on 100% on all tracks now with ps2.

Really? I play a lot of driving games, mainly rally, but the PS2 pad is near on imposible for me in GTR. Thinking of getting a wheel, but do you have any tips to tweak the PS2 pad? I have tried so many settings. So twitchy. Got any tips?

playing with a PS2 pad is fine, but you really need a wheel if you want to get the most from the game - ie playing without any aids
