Half Life 2 Queries...

I've heard that this famous "Hydra Stab" Scene was removed from the final HL2 game, like a lot of scenes from the Doom3 alpha. Is that true? If so that sucks since this was probably the most famous scene.

And what about these Tripod robots? Were they removed also? This is such a "World of the worlds" rip-off

By the way, what's this sinister looking tower? Is it the city's futuristic Citadel? It's been shown in every review of HL2
Do you actually get to go inside? Do you fight a boss in there? It looks cool!

Is the game linear or does it let you explore a lot like Unreal 1, Heretic, Hexen 1 - 2, etc...?
I thought Unreal 2 sucked because it was short & incredibly linear.
So I wouldn't want to mess around with anything like that again...
Oh and does this game have End level Bosses & cool music like the 1st Unreal 1?

Try playing the game and your questions will be answered with yes for the majority, I only noticed the first scene you mention is missing and the one in the docks where you make the steel beam wipeout the soldiers, other than that, I loved it. I was expecting it to be a flop with all the slips in release date and the amount of hype over the screenshots and tech demo's but it got me sucked into it and proved a very worthy game. Better than what Doom 3 offered, now that was a shocking game, but thats a whole other thread right there :P

Oh and that guy in the video screen, thats my old science teacher, the spitting double of him.

The Stryders are in the game yes, have to take them out with the rocket laundher...

I believe thats the building you end up in towards the end of the game, i dont want to say much more as it will give away the story :)

That is the Administrator (i think) that the scientists were talking about during Half-life 1 :) a rather important chappie in hl2.

I don't have time to play it & can't be bothered.
I would rather have the game told to me through forums.

I've only played the 1st 2 levels of HL1 so I don't know who that guy is...
Is he the end game bastid who caused all this trouble & you have to blow his ass away?

well play the game maybe's a scene a week atleast you get to play it and it will only take 10 - 15 minutes :) its a worth while game to play no matter how long it takes, it took me a while to get so far in the game i was to busy looking at the surroundings instead of paying attention to the story. Especially the part in the doctors lab where you get your suit, that teleportation machine you can play with for a while, pick up things from his office put them in the machine after a while he tells you to stop playing.

But the part with the striders, now that is an all out fight you get about 6 of them on the hard setting and they all aim for you :D

hydra scene had to be removed because although it looked cool, wasn't actually any fun to play (well, according to valve).

the striders ain't too tough, the rockets from your launcher can be guided making it a bit easier.

bah annoying thread, made me want to play it through a 4th time now :)

well worth the time invested in playing :D

Sorry, but what's the point of paying for a game, playing it for 5 mins and then asking people on a forum what happens in it, totally ruining any fun to be had later on in the game?

Bit like playing with "god mode" on just to get to see the ending... pointless.

If you cannot be bothered to play the game to find out what happens why bother asking us what happens, it makes no difference really as you are not going to see it for yourself.

Nobodys going to tell you because it'd spoil it for everyone else who hasn't played it yet. Just play the game yourself. It's not hard, and as said above, if you just do one section per day, you'll get through it in no time :).

Heres some of the story (highlight to read)

The large building is called the citadel, where Doctor Breen (the administrator from HL1 and now spokesperson for the alien race that has overtaken earth) works, you do end up inside there.

Breen came to power when the alien race alien race invaded and he surrendered the earth to them in the "9 hour war" (i think it was 9 hours). The aliens (combine) erected large screens and played messages of Breen to the masses to calm them. The combine also turned on a supression field so the humans cannot reproduce (you dont see any children)

And so, the Gman (the guy you see all over HL1, and offers you a job at the end of the the game) brings you out of stasis, and puts you inside the city, ready to fight your way and change the course of the battle (cause lets face it, you rock)

The G-Man helps you along the way, in one instance giving someone a rocket launcher to give to you, and at the end, when the battle is won, he puts you back into stasis, after a speech which makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

Still play it though

Agreed, just get yerself involved and play it, HL2 rewards the faithful, I haven’t had as much fun since the original Halo and Quake2 arrived in the dirty unkempt noTHINGface hands. Great fun.

As well as the sections on it you can actually save the game at any point so you can literally drop it where you want and pick up later. I found the game to be drawn out a bit on some of the sections so played it a little bit at a time and finished it last week (I actually bouht it on day of release so its took me a while). Regardless, its a very rewarding game, have to admit I did enjoy it except for what I previously mentioned. Storytelling on it is really good all round and its enjoyable finding things out as you go. Buy it, you wont regret it at all.
