    Question Pings!

Don't know if this is the appropriate forum but it's related to gaming so mite aswel.

I'm on a 255K down and 15K internt connection, I am using a netgear router, and am the only person using the connection, however my ping is always in the 150 region, could anybody tell me why this is. No matter which server I'm on it's never below 100 and when I ping server ip's in cmd, I always get 0% packet loss. Could anybody help me out as It's messing up my aim in ut2k4?

    Thanks

What servers are you joining and where are they specifically. Also, is that internet connection cable, dsl, or what?

15k (im assuming this is kilobits?) upload is pritty weak, that could verywell be the problem.

Try pinging a local website and see what pings you get to that address.

Well while playing, do you have any downloads going?.. Or any other program using the internet?.. Like MSN.. or something?..

As this often slows down online gaming and gives higher pings.

When I was on 512/128 cable I got 30-35 ping on UK CS 1.6 servers. I get 20-30 now on 2mb now

If your on ADSL your exchange might be saturated, were you playing at peak times?

    what filter do you use?

if i use a bt made filter i get around < 50 however if i use a cheap filter, with no brand, ping is about 200.

otherwise it could be connections in your house, or it could be on the isp side. who are you with?
