Alot of people are buying OEM copies for around $39.99 off the internet and using the upgrade program to get it... Might be your best bet... And hasnt Farcry been 64bit for a while now?
No, this is old news about it coming out but they were holding out until the release of XP x64Originally Posted by myth

happy reading fella
w00t, going to read it now, cheers.
Edit: hmm, very little performance benefit. Never mind, I don't have a 64 bit processor anyway.

May be worth waiting till drivers get a little more sorted before sampling XP64.
And as for the upgrade program, there are a few clauses i'm uneasy with.
Technology Advancement Program Eligibility
In order to be eligible to receive Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition, your computer must have been ordered between March 31, 2003 and July 31, 2005 with Microsoft Windows® XP Pro (32 Bit) preinstalled.
In addition, you must read and agree to the following:
By participating in this program, your 32-bit version of Windows® XP Professional will no longer be licensed.
The installation of Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition requires you to format your hard drive. You must back up your files and settings prior to the installation or they will be erased. Microsoft is not liable for any loss of data as a result of this installation.
Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition requires 64-bit hardware drivers (32-bit drivers are not supported). Drivers for 64-bit Windows are created at the discretion of hardware manufacturers and may not be available for some of your hardware components.
For the purposes of the End User License Agreement for your existing Windows® XP Pro (32 Bit) software, your installation of this software will be an “Upgrade.”
The installation of Windows® XP Professional x64 Editions will void any support with your PC manufacturer. One free support call will be provided by Microsoft for any installation-related issues. Additional calls to Microsoft support will be available on a pay-per-incident basis.
Cost for shipping and handling of upgrade is $12.00 USD for domestic shipments and $22.00 USD for International shipments plus any applicable taxes.
I dont see any problems with the points that you have highlighted...

And? Since when did anyone use windows versions of drivers? everyone just downloads them from www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com (since most people are using nforce boards ) otherwise just pop to the other sites you need to go to.

Ok if you store brought your PC then fair enough it wouldnt be worth killing warrenty over it however the 1 call to microsoft is a good thing (more than you get if u do a reinstall with standard xp ) and if you cant manage to installed an OS you shouldnt be doing it.
If those werent points u highlighted at where jsut bond to make everything easier to read then ah well... however the only catch i can see there is the fact it HAS to be a storebrought PC for you to be able to do it

Looking at your specs the only things i can see being a problem is the Herc Soundcard and the TV card (since everyone seems to be having trouble with them)
Now that x64 has been released things should change.

True, no sound card, tv card, raid card, printer, card reader currently. Mobo & graphics drivers work fine. Having said that the current crop of drivers for the on-board raid are a little problematical. So with half my kit not currently working under XP64 you can see the root cause of my current antipathy.
Plus last time i looked many browser plugins such as flashplayer don't work either. I will get a copy tho as it's the way foward, but wont migrate completely yet. I just wish driver support would move on apace.
64bit Linux however is much more sorted atm.
I agree but the rollover screenshots do show the differences such as Depth of view is a lot further - They've added mountains on one of the areas in the distance.Originally Posted by Rave
As long as the performance is the same and the visuals improve I'll be happy , no point running it @ 120 fps when 90 fps will do, but with better lighting, better foilage etc
