GTA2 Directx problem???

GTA2 has been released as you all probably know for free on rockstar games site for download... I installed it fine, i go to the config thing as told to do first, and it says i have a directx problem. Then i try the actual game and i get a error mesage saying that either my version is too old or i need directx6.0 WTF cause the thing is i have directx 9.0c and tryed updating it but its already the most current version...
anyone else ahd this problem~? i googled it and they said try reinstalling directx... i cannot find a offline installer tho... so anyone have a link or know how to solve this problem as this game is a classic and i wanna play it...

There was a similar prob with 3dmark03 where it thought dx9 was older than 8
They released a patch to fix that.. but I doubt rockstar would for gta2 now becaue its sooo old..

no but its bin released resonabaly recently on the classic free games range thing...

there is a patch from rockstar but i start it up it unpacks but then wait for it NOTHING:|
