    here is how it works.. ps3 comes out.. looks nice gfx ect.. then in 2 moths the next set of gfx cards for pc comes out and pc's are back in top for the next 4 years.. will be like that for ever due to the way upgrades are structured in different surfaces.. i feel pc gaming will always have a place.. there are games like rts games and such that have never been done on a console... but like nintendo i fear pc games will become more and more speciallised as gereat games for true gamers and pushed into the back shelves behind the latest grand theft bling 4000
    AMD3000+ ATIX800XL + GBNF44x mobo.. all at stock because they're good enough atm + CA A1 amp-->Mission 73S Loigtech MX1000 + 1GB ram + 1/3 TB HD array
    Wintendo XP + Linux (when it works) .. just incase you were wondering

    I can't believe people are stating that! If anything PCs will be the end of consoles. A modern console is just a gaming pc in my eyes, just look at the components they hold. They have the same basic components that any pc/computer has (and has had for years). And PCs are far more flexible. You wont be able to update the CPU/RAM/Graphics of a console you can with a PC. PC gaming is hear to stay for the long term, i cant see consoles lasting much beyond the next few generations. Thats my view on it any way.

    .. well looking at what i posted what i was trying to say wasn;t really said.. fact is in 20 years there will no longer be much of a differnece between pc's annd consoles.. i reckon most pc's will be console sized but only us nerds will have "conventional pc's"

    heh no chance of consoles taking over pc gaming Although there have been worrying signs of convergence..Deux Ex2 being the biggest with theif3 not far behind...both ruined due to being re-designed for the xbox ignoring the capabilities of the general PC..

    But anyway, consoles are always going to be there, for the casual gamer who doesnt want the expense (and street cred removing) PC to play on. PC games will always be here for the rest of us who have enough self esteem not to worry about image lol

    PC technology will always be better than console tech too as new components are released every few days - new consoles are every few years. The xbox hardware was over a year out of date when it first came out.... Whats more likely is that we will see convergence of console/PC into one system - much like the HTPCs that are becoming more and more popular now.

    I can't believe you are asking if consoles will overtake PC gaming. The question you should ask is if PC gaming will ever overtake console gaming. The answer is no. Console game sales will always be many times greater than PC game sales. Personally, I've switched to console gaming. I used to be a PC snob, then I decided it is ridiculous to buy new hardware every two years to play PC games when I can buy a new console every 5 years for the price of one video card.

    I doubt it... I prefer consoles for offline platformy games, and PC for fps etc.

    Heh, erm no. The PC has been around as a games platform for a long time, and it's not going anywhere.

    People seem to think that pc means mouse and keybored. You can use ps2 contolers with a pc, so no there not going any where. Is the ps3 really that fast, faster than 2 6800ultras with a gigabyte of combined graphics memory....

    Lets face it, PCs are multi operational, upgradeable, and ultimately the most future proofed technology. Consoles are good for games (anyone who says it will make a viable long use operating system is probably being a bit too ambitious.) but cannot keep up with developments.

    Its all down to a matter of taste, and I presume many non-technical oriented people who like games will gladly buy consoles over a PC.

    Ive thought about this a lot, and I conclude:

    99% of population are non-techinical chavs, and so dont know what a pc is.

    Either people don't learn, or thier too young to remember that this exact same debate appears every time a new generation of console arives. The answer is NO. It's not my opinion, it's proven fact. It's like say motorbike's will replace car's. Tis very naive people, and shows a lack of understanding of the nature of the beast.
