Battlefield 2... getting a decent game!

WHne I first got BF2, it rocked big time as the majority of servers were set up by peeps playing the game properly, using the comms and generally making the best use of the whole 'chain of command' thing.

Like an idiot, I didn't mkae a note of those servers though...

Now I know the DW and 50klicks guys have touted their servers on here and I had a look, but sorry 50Klicks, you were pinging 399 to me on my 2 meg line last night!

So, has anyone found any servers where the teams play properly and not do the usual 'leap in a vehicle and bugger off leaving you behind' thing?

I mean, last night there was some fool moaning about the lack of weapons on a Black Hawk... where if he'd hung on 2 second there were three of us legging it over to climb in and with two mini-guns that is awesome at area fire support... I did manage to squad up with two other guys and we worked well together, but alas, still no comms which ruins a lot of the fun in the game.

I play mainly as a medic, engineer or support class... It much be the benevolent side to me!

So come on, any good servers with team orientated players on it?

I might even mention them in my review coming up and going live on Monday.

btw. If anyone is on tonight, post in here... let's see if we can't get a game going, eh? I'll be on from 9 or 10 ish... (got a party to go to during the day!)

I have found the 50 clicks server to be great when it's not full.

I have not found the 50 klicks server to be good either on my 2mb line as it seems to ping very badly for me.
I too really want to play a game in which people use comms and teamwork including getting into squads and having a good commander.

Guess it might be my connection then (8MB ) I get a ping of around 10 on all the servers.

Yes Nick GSV have a server - its pretty much the only one I play on atm, but tends to be a bit on the quiet side, usually 5v5 although occasionally it is the full 32-man server...

I've found the full game maps have little or none of the 'pick up and play'-ness of the demo. pretty disappointing really

I have found the game to be reat fun if you can get into a good squad and have a commander giving out orders. Good comms= Good fun

It's pot luck really - like with most online games out there.

I currently only play on ranked servers, I find the best games are to be had there providing your lucky. Most people want to increase their scores, so there are usually enough medics and engies about to fix you up, enough decent pilots for those of us that can't fly to save their lives (literally) etc. There is almost always a commander too as s/he can get loads of points. The stats generally encourage teamwork.

OFC this isn't always the case, and it does happen that you get the occasional 'team' with about 2 squads and no commander, but in my experience it is rare, and usually happens on the official UK servers (multiplay hosted, urgh). So I stick to the european official servers, ace pings (normally in the 18-30 range), and usually a good game.

The only issue I have is actaully getting on a server lol since they are always full :S

Anyone else think that Strike at Karkand is the best map in a Battlefields game, ever?

yeah it's pretty good Not as good as gulf of oman tho, that ranks as my fav.

Generally all the USA Vs MEC ones are great fun, with the chineese ones being generally pants in comparison..with the exception of dragon valley(sp?) or whatever it's called.

As for comparing it to the rest of the BF series...well you can't compare. This game is so much more fun to play and generally better than any of the BF series that it would be rude to put them up against each other. In this game the weapons 'feel' more real, bullet's aint made of paper, physics work, and it plays well. Compared to BF1942 which just got so boring and didnt work well at all. Hence why i sold it a week after buying it :S Keeping BF2 tho, can't put it down

Well, other than the glaring fact that a patch is urgently required, when you finally manage to connect to a server there is undoubtedly a lot of wholesome fun to be had, my favourite map is Strike at Kourkad and the first level on the single player list.

I like picking the Spec Ops guy and the Medic, you really feel involved with these two unit types!!
