DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D; AMD64 3500+ Winchester ;
2x XFX 6600GT ; Corsair XMS3200XLPRO TWINX 1GB;
Dell 2405FPW TFT.
no the hard disk is hardly used it says disk unrecoginsed
Dust on the lens? Try giving it a blowIgnore that I just remembered what a x-box looks like

SuperFriends.World of Warcraft.Dunemaul = Velous | CS:S = ChrisG | EVE Online = Alex Marche
Gaming Rig (See System)|Nintendo Wii|Nintendo 64|Sony PSP|Sony Playstation|Sony Playstation 2 Silmline|Xbox 360 Pro v.2 HDMI|Dell XPS M1530|
If it reads some disks and not others its not likey to he a read error, uinless they changed the X-box dsik standard.
how old is old? Is it still under warrenty? It sounds to me like a laser alignment problem, or a laser power issue (ie it is getting too weak). Best bet is to give it a clean (with a dry none scratching duster). Or if you are feeling brave take it apart and adjust the potentiometer to increase the laser's power - I assume the Xbox has one - that might fix it...ofc it will void and warrenty that is left if you open the case.
Other than that try giving microsoft a call, they normally have VERY good tech support (even if their software can maybe be called, 'dodgy')
3rd option is to accept that its broken, and stick with your PC, you will have a much happier life(or buy another one if you can't bare to be without it)
i mainly play pc games but i will try fiddliong around with the laser power when i get the lid off
That used to happen with PS2's didn't it? The blue disc error thing... I haven't heard about it happening to Xboxs.
If its a phillips or thompson DVD drive then these are more prone to failing, getting read errors and misaligning than the samsung DVD drives that are used in some of the xboxes.
I had to replace my old Xbox's drive with a samsung and it worked fine ever since![]()
are they just standard dvd drives
I don't know at allOriginally Posted by ifyouknowme
Sorry - a friend got the drive and fitted it for me
The model thats stated to work 100% with xboxes is the Samsung SDG-605 DVD-ROM.
Hope this helps![]()
it's more than likely your dvd drive packing up - they are not standard dvd drives either. you can probably get a 2nd hand drive for around £30, but you'll need to open your xbox, and you'll need those torx type screwdrivers to do that
check this place out: http://llamma.com/xbox/
yeah i cant be bothered to fix it, doesnt get used enough to actually buy anything for it
thanks for ur help anyway
