    Aiming in BF2

OK - I've not played any online shooters in a longtime as nothing has interested me since Tribes 2. So I DLed Battlefield 2 demo after hearing all the hype - and it looks like a lot of fun and had decent teamplay/strategy rather than being a twitch/camper nightmare like CS.

    BUT

I'm finding the aiming system in the demo really annoying. With most guns it seems you have to zoom in, and even then you're only about 30 percent likely to hit even with an enemy close-by, and dead in your sights. Is my system borked, or is this some sort of deliberate thing? I can see it maybe is meant to cut down on 'twitch' gaming, but this feels wrong in the other extreme. I'm dithering over whether to buy the game because of this....

go prone, if they're far away aim just over their head. if they're running aim just infront of them. i find the aiming system very good considering the rest is so glitchy

Always fire in bursts, and always try to use the iron sights.

The only time you should keep your finger on the trigger and not aim is when they are right up close.

You have to learn how to aim in it like any game

You might have to adjust for lag (depending on your ping/choke/loss), you have to allow for slight bullet drop, bullet separation, bullet size etc etc..It's all supposed to be in there - although i'm dubious if bullet drop is really implemented... but heh

The weapon you use also makes a huge difference. Eg the USA sniper rifle is deadly accurate, and so is the chineese one, but the 3rd rifle is woefully inaccurate - but then you get a bigger clip.

The M16/203 is pretty accurate in single shot mode, and its not too bad in burst - but like others have said, aim using the iron sights - its more accurate. Also dont forget that if people are running or moving then you need to aim for where they will be when your bullets reach them - not where they are now.

Just takes practice to adjust to it

Bullet drop is most certainly implemented! Took out a very long range guy with the US rifle and had to aim almost his full body length over him to get a headshot! Still, I was very happy with it

I get the tiniest bit of mouselag on that game so i find it incredibly hard to aim. Still though I agree the scope is quite nessecary but isn't always needed. I think EA were trying to get brute realism with this.

Thats how they work. Go prone, use the sights.

When coding for all the Battlefield series the spread can be varied as TheBuZZard ably demonstrates. It will vary right across the small-arms just like rate-of-fire and depth of zoom.

That's a fantastic picture there mate, did you make it?

BTW, does anyone else find camping the top of the tower block with anti-tank bloody fun? My fav trick is to land the black hawk hanging over the side. With no pilot no-one can lock AFAIK and the minigun is LETHAL when the hele is stopped.

I love using the AT from a parachute, and then watch the driver / gunner try to spot wher it came from.

i found aiming in the demo hard, my mouse seems to sort of move in 'squares'

move it a little and it skips across one of these squares? very very gay

im usually a black hawk pilot in the demo and i find it so annoying when im dropping in some would be sniper that the mini-gunners are terrible at shooting, mabye i need to land next time so they can aim better 'slaps head'

Shooting from the chopper while it's flying is very hard on a majority of servers due to lag

You may want to up your resolution a bit as on 1024x768 I have no such problems with aiming (never even heard of such a problem).

Try doing it from a parachute at 200m+ up in the air- use the lazer guiding and you won't miss! It's hilarious seeing the vehicle drivers going mental trying to find you

As far as I'm concerned (speaking strictly as someone who spends about 90% of his time in BF using the sniper kit), there is no bullet drop. I've never tried to play as if it's implemented, and aiming directly at somone's head 500m away gets the same results as from 50m, so there's no reason for me to think it exists.

What I've noticed with accuracy: Kneeling has about 75% of the benefits of going prone, so it's more practical for long range shots when you have less time to take the shot. Also, one thing that might affect your aim on single-shot weapons is nudging the mouse as you click. I used to do it all the time in BF1942, because when you've been waiting for a good shot for a while you can find yourself accidentally pushing your aim off centre when you release the tension in your arm... I know that's lame, but it used to happen to me all the time

Oh, and sniper accuracy is instant. That's all I got for you, hope it helps
