Psychonauts - Freezes PC on start-up

Can't sign up to the Majesco forums as they don't seem to be sending out activation emails at the moment... nice...

Anyway, I imported Psychonauts for the PC as I, like others, am getting very pissed off at no UK release. I installed it, everything seemed to go fine, but when I try and run the game it just completely locks up my PC. This is still at desktop, it doesn't even get to any splash screen or anything. By complete lock-up, I mean beyond a ctrl-alt-del, it needs a reboot. From browsing the Majesco forum (even though not being able to post), it seems many others are having the same and similar problems. Anyone here encountered this?

    My PC:

    Athlon XP2800+ (o/c to XP3200+)
    XFX 5900xt (o/c to 490/960)
    1gb PC3200 Ram

Drivers for the gfx card are the ones bundled with BF2 (77.30). The demo for Psychonauts did exactly the same thing and this was before I had installed these drivers, so it's not a driver problem. I had hoped that it was just a bug in the demo, but obviously not. I have patched the game up to 1.02.

    Any ideas anyone?

I've just bought this game, and it runs with no problem on my PC.

Have you installed the 1.03 patch yet? perhaps it might work with that.

Have you tried updating your motherboard drivers?

Good luck, i hope you can get it to work.

Yep have installed 1.03 patch, and as a dedicated gamer every single driver possible in my system is up to date. Still no luck.

What's quite revealing is that I downloaded the demo to test out and yes, you guessed it, that does exactly the same thing... there's something between the code in this game and the configuration of my PC that isn't getting on well.

I reckon you need a clean install of windows, with all your latest drivers installed

Here's a list of my PC specs amd what drivers i use (Hope this helps you)

Windows XP professional with service pack 1

    Athlon 64 3ghz (Socket 939) (Not overclocked)

Epox 9NPA+ Ultra (Nforce4) using Nforce unified 5.11 driver

2gb of Twinmos 3200 ram (Not overclocked)

ALC850 soundcard using Realtek 3.75 audio drivers

    X800XT with Unian 5.7 drivers

Its hopefully something simple if not then the best bets a clean install.
