    Jap or US PSP?

Looking at getting one of these babys but don't know which to get? Are there advantages over either in terms of the hardware(ie does one have a better screen etc)?

I know the japanese one is region 2 which is easier for movies(as I live in uk so am region 2) but I can just as easily get region 1 movies from ebay etc.

Also, anyone know where the cheapest PSP is at the moment.

Is it possible to make a PSP multi-region and how easy is it to upgrade the firmware?(I , mention the firmware as I've heard that the internet browsing is coming up in the new firmware in next few weeks(ps. anyone know if this will connect to a normal wi-fi network)).
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Mine is japanese, from gadget-asia.com, prompt service, good price and no import duty, or at least my girlfriend didnt pay any when she picked the package up since she got me it for my birthday (how lucky am i? Hot and buys good presents)

Jap ones didnt suffer from the dead pixel issues you got with the us version, but of course the manual doesnt make any sense (unless you can read japanese).

It will connect to a normal wifi network for updates, but i havent had any web browsing yet.

    Also, ridge racer FTW!

I just ordered mine from VideoGamePlus Online, quite a good price and all of the customer replys say fast delivery so I guess I'll have to wait!!

But they do ask you for ID for your first order... I found that out just now as I got in after a few games of pool!!

considering the UK model is released in a month, ask yourself whether you want to get one now or wait & get a UK warranty

oh, and as a recent dealing with DHL shows, don't assume the best when it comes to customs :/

I would say wait (assuming you can't be convinced not to buy one of the blasted things ) for the UK release.

Importing is a risky business duty wise, i've bought a fair bit off stuff from japan/asia (through yesasia.com mainly) any never been stung for it, but i've heard plenty of reports from people that have. The JAP/USA models are also both (obviously) first releases of the machines, and as with any console (complex multi-feature ones such as the psp in particular) there are bugs/problems with many units. The chances are most of these will be fixed in time for the UK release - which will probably come with the latest software pre-loaded for you

ofc that isnt guarenteed, but sony are a reputable company and even though i don't like their consoles they seem to do right by their customers

Also as hex says, a UK warrenty would defo help, plus movies would be easier to get hold of

I recommend you getting a US one, but make sure you get a v1.5, becuase you can run homebrew apps on it such as doom and quake . When PSP is released over here the firmware wil be 2.0. This won't run homebrew apps

As somebody else stated wait a month or two & she may find she gets a letter demanding customs duty payment & handling charge if it was shipped through DHL.

And yes the Jap versions do suffer from dead pixels, mine has two. But I don't care as you cant see them 99% of the time.
