Originally a total conversion for freespace 2 (which since freespace 2 source became public) has seen the engine be radically overhauled. The Babylon Project no longer requires Freespace 2 to play. Offering multiplayer and single player experience (see the multiplayer topic in the forum for details of how to get the multiplayer game working).

It offers traditional, big explosion space battles - an arcade style experience.

It's worth a look if you like game such as x-wing vs tie fighter.

Indeed there is - but that game isn't half as complete as ours. It's was our sister mod way back when we were both hosted by firstones.com. We're in contact with them, in fact some team members have worked on both projects.

There are also mods for homeworld www.b5mods.com again which I'd dabbled on and many other games.

IFH: This is more of a real simulation, newtonian physics etc.

Grabbing it all now, hope it plays more like Freelancer and Tachyon rather than X2, hate sims where they are more realistic. Prefer the arcade type ones.

In that order. 2 simple multiplayer missions as available in a missions pack in the downloads section of the website. Please refer here for multiplayer instructions. The game engine is open source and there are many versions of the exe (fs2_open_r.exe, supplied by the freespace open team), expect small bugs and use the launcher to configure the game to your requirements. None standard resolutions do cause interface issues with text alignment etc (ingame appears fine though)
