    Warcraft 3 cd key entry

I reinstalled windows about a month ago and now i dont have thr reg entries of the CD key to play wc3. I cant be bothered to reinstall and lose my campaign status, so does anyone know of a tool that will allow me to enter my cd key again ? Or a tool that will allow me too edit/view and extract certain reg entries from a reg backup, as have plenty of reg backups from when it was installed. thanks for your help anyone

And, no, before anyone says it, this is NOT some pathetic attempt to find a tool to get arouind the cd key protection.

reg editing is quite easy, but ull need to know where to put the entry....
to save you using regedit, heres how to make a .reg file which would can dbl click to merge whats in it into the registry:

    * make new file with .reg extension

    * first line should be "REGEDIT4" without quotes

    * each key is make up of a root key - for example HKEY_USER and can have many keys inside, like a hdd has folders. the key/path goes inside []'s, like so:

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{79eac9c2-baf9-11ce-8c82-00aa004ba90b}\ProxyStubClsid32]

    * next theres the value for the key, which goes like this:

    @="{B8DA6310-E19B-11D0-933C-00A0C90DCAA9}"

the @ tells it its a value, the equals is to assign it a value, and the value itself is inside the quotes. the {}'s in the example are part of the value, not the format of the file.

    another example:

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{79eac9c4-baf9-11ce-8c82-00aa004ba90b}]
    @="IHlinkTarget"

you may want to run regedit first to check the path for the wc3 key or try and find it on google...
these examples are from a quick google, dont try using them cos i didnt read what they do, and its sommin to do with windows which wouldnt be good.

and ive just remembered something i wish i remembered first, battlenet games iirc DONT save the cd key in the registry, cos ive had exactly the same prob as you with diablo2. easyest way would be to backup any saves etc.. and reinstall the game over the top... i know its annoying, diablo2 was 1.4gb and took foreva on my slow cd drive

reg backups are just plain text, open em in notepad (if u have win2k/xp) or another app if ur on 9x.. and use the find to goto the line with the cd key, but they might be compressed with .cab so they should open in winrar or winzip.
