    NFL game get lukewarm response!

EA may finally have to understand that they can't produce the same old each year.

Some reviews give it 8-9 out of 10 but most give it below 8.

    1up - 9.0

    Gamespot 7.8

But reader reviews give it 7.8 max. on average.

COuld this be EA's proverbial kick in the japsie?

I'll be getting Madden 06 in any case, for the PS2 though, not the PC. How it pans out remains to be seen.

i was impressed by 2005, but it did have a few odds and sods in it that needed polishing.

by the sounds of it, 2006 will have the same problems, but with new features.
having said that, i pre-ordered 2006 for the PS2 last week

No. As far as I know, EA owns exclusive rights to the NFL game license. People don't have a choice. You've met the typical person who plays sports games on consoles--they are so obsessed with sports that they will buy a ****ty game just for the updated stats. Just think about it--these are the people dropping 50+ USD each year just for updated stats.

I guess I just don't have the obsessed frame of mind. I don't see why updated stats would make a game more fun. I still think Tecmo Super Bowl is a fun game. The key to me is that a game has to be fun. If I get Madden 2003 used today, I think I would have about the same amount of fun with it as I would from 2005 or whatever is out now. Like I've said a few times in a very condescending tone, we're talking about the type of person who thinks watching the draft on TV is entertaining--the obsessed fan who takes it too seriously. I would rather play God of War and get my violence fix.
