"backing up " ps2 games

what is the score with backing up your own ps2 games????
i have heard stories saying it is ok as long as you have the original
so any advice would be welcome

Apparently theres nothing quite like "fair use" in UK law, but I reckon you'd be okay assuming you are doing what you are asking...I've got a backup of one game that I hoped backing up would make work on a UK PS2 (its an American game), and I'd fight with anybody telling me thats illegal...or even wrong.

Its like having a tape in your car for a cd in your house, isn't it....probably not strictly speaking "legal" legal, but nobody is gonna do ANYTHING, ever.

so assuming it is legal how would you do it the reason i ask is i have not long bought colin mcrae 3 and the bloody thing is now scratched and unusable(due to the kids and there sticky fingers) so i thought if i was to back up all the games i have and use them so if they got scratched damaged it would not matter as much
