I would always go for my PC, no console should be worth that much!
SuperFriends.World of Warcraft.Dunemaul = Velous | CS:S = ChrisG | EVE Online = Alex Marche
Gaming Rig (See System)|Nintendo Wii|Nintendo 64|Sony PSP|Sony Playstation|Sony Playstation 2 Silmline|Xbox 360 Pro v.2 HDMI|Dell XPS M1530|
Wheres the option for both for folks like me that change PC parts more than god knows what and still has consoles
Mulitplayer consoling is ideal for a few mates round, few beers or stronger and a few hours of fun on FIFA or Burnout (revenge Rocks btw folks ) sessions. Now this could be done with PC's but I'd need more than 4
I'll still upgrade my PC to play the latest stuff etc as well...
It took me a lot of consideration to come to this conclusion, but I'll probably go for the 360 after the initial furore has died down.
You can't compare the non-upgradability of a console with a PC. Like 5lab says - The PS2 is 5 years old, but still plays the latest games. My video card is half that age and is considered ancient and won't play many of the latest PC games.
I'm not saying you shouldn't prefer the PC upgrade over a console - each to their own, but the beauty of consoles is that you *can't* upgrade the graphics/CPU, therefore forcing games makers to make the most of what they've got, squeezing whatever they can out of the system and not forcing people to spend large amounts of money on a single component for their PC.
You can call Microsoft as evil and corporate as you want - but a lot of people seem to forget that the video card companies are in it to milk as much profit out of their customers as well!
Yes the PS2 plays the 'latest' games, but the 'latest' games don't look much better than the older ones that came out around release time. The ones that do are the result of massive programming optimisations, shoddy performance (ie slowdown), tiny maps (thief 3..) lots of loading, long loading times etc etc.
So while yes you can play them, they dont increase in graphical and audio quality like PC Games can/do...but anyqway this isnt a really a PC vs Consoles thread
The bottom line is that if you like consoles, you will buy one - simple as. Personally I might consider getting the Nintendo Revolution when that comes out - purely because of the number of unique titles that you can always get for nintendo consoles.
To put it in perspective look at the N64, arguably one of the best gaming consoles ever released. its 'Killer' games were Mario64, MaroKart64, Zelda, Goldeneye, Perfect dark and Banjo-Kazooie - they were some of its best sellers (and rightly so). None of those games were/are available on ANY other platform (legally at least, excluding emulators).
Now look at the PSX/PS2, some of its Killer games were Tony Hawk, WWF etc, Fifa, tekken, Final Fantasy..All available on other formats, and all apart from Tekken and FF were on the PC.
Obviously we're never going to agree on this so we'll have to agree to disagree, but your better off saving your cash for a unique console or just sticking it in your pc
edit: oh and i wasnt calling M$ etc evil for wanting to make money, i understand that that is why they exist, i was just having a go at them because without the Xbox, games like DeusEx 2 and theif 3 (both which i was really looking forward too) could have been brilliant titles. Both had level/map size drastically reduced to enable to xbox to cope (due to its small memory capacity), audio quality reduced, texture quality lowered (although this was fixed with patches admittedly), and with deus Ex 2 the whole game was dumbed down to make it work on a console (things like the XP system, the skill system and the shortcut slot system were removed because they were deamed too complex for a console..they were definining features of the first game ffs)
But anyway, rant over before i go too far *remembers that they are only games and computers lol*

voted for PC
Under Development...
have to say, all the people that went with pc your RIGHT !!
if your pc is a fairly decent spec atm it wouldnt cost much to get your pc up to a standerd to compete with a xbox 360.
*Votes PC upgrade*
I would have to go PC upgrade too... never been one for consoles, but then I've never had a TV, so not much use really
plus, PCs multifunctional whereas consoles not so much so (at all)
