What the devil is an e-sport? If this is a reference to video gaming, I loathe the use of "sport" when describing something that requires no athletic ability.
No idea what e-sport is.

Basically it's gaming, but played competitively either in online leagues or LANs...
I don't really consider those sports - they are games to me!Originally Posted by Nick

When they form part of the olympics should be in the answer

In the United States, they are called games.Originally Posted by Nick

It needs more Publicity really
I'm able to see both sides of the fence here as I'm part of an "e-sports" team which is sponsored and we've been to a variety of events and only seen a handful of press folks at these events - 1 was Nick himself at ACON5 a few months back
Then you get a very small "News" report on the BBC website - hidden in the depths of their news page. What they need to do is get it more mainstream in the respect, more news coverage. Even news regarding the more well known teams like 4k are also hidden deep within the depths of the websites, and at most they get 2-3 paragraphs of "generalised" speil rather than indepth coverage like what hexus did
All the major companies such as ATi, Nvidia, et al who all sponsor events try their hardest to increase the publicity, but unless its actally taken seriously we'll just have 3 paragraph reports on news website like the BBC![]()
But the question is: how many people care? If people aren't interested in 'e-sports', then it isn't going to get much more publicity. I have never heard of all these different teams, although, in fairness, I don't really follow any sport, electronic or not.Originally Posted by WildmonkeyUK

Thats the point though, if you don't know about it, how can you say you wouldn't be interested in it?
Look at what happened when Channel Four started broadcasting American Football, teams sprung up all over and people took an interest.
The attraction of e-sports is that anyone can do it... it's far less limited by physical prowess than pretty much any other sport you can name.
And I call it e-sports because its an electronic sport... pro-gaming is a different kettle of fish... Wildmonkey plays e-sports, but I doubt he'd claim to be a pro-gamer, he doesn't do it professionally. (unless he's on the 'chat up'... "Hey babe, I'm a pro-gamer....")
