    PSP wireless internet questions

    1. Is the PSP web browser any good?

    2. Would it be a simple case of getting a WiFi card for my PC and then using Windows internet connection sharing so i could browse the net on my PSP downstairs in the living room?

the web browser all depends on what you are using :s if you have fw2 the browser is far better then the techu browser on the psp by far! but then again you can use the tenchu browser on fw 1.5, il <3 my 1.5, qould never upgrade for nothing! Although fw2 allows you to d/l stuff directly onto the memory stick, some people say they have problems with it though...

if you get a wireless router which you need to go on the internet on your psp you should look for a net gear one, i bought a belkin one and it just doesnt do the stuff i need it to do such as port forwarding is too much trouble for me to do. Also the you dont need a wireless card only if you want the internet connection for other computers...

    -hope this helps abit...

Lol, not really mate. Was a software developer for 8 years and i have been in and building PC's for a good 16 years. A PSP novice yes, i have never used one.

Why would i need a router then? I can certainly see the benifits of a router, but is it worth the extra cost when i could just get a WiFi dongle for a tenner? This is only a simple peer-2-peer network which i could use my existing modem no? When i had a mate staying at my house this is what we did to share the internet connection using the modem in my PC. Cheap and simple and no need of a router because because there was only 2 machines involved. But will the PSP need a router? Can in not be set up as a simple peer-2-peer network with my PC?

Is the PSP WPA-SPK compliant ?

A friend had one round at mine with a few emu's on and I had a fiddle looking on the network settings to see if it had WPA but all I could find was WEP.

    [EDIT] - nope the PSP does not support WPA security at all according to the help site @ sony here ;

    http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP.as...structure.html

Hmmm.... quite a bizarre move - most people I know use WPA-SPK/WPA rather than WEP ( see the thread in the connections sub-forum ) so to enable this to go on my network I have to change my security setup.

    GG sony - WP!!!GG!!!

WPA-PSK is supported. You need to have installed Ver2.0 of the firmware then its available in the network setup. Mine is setup using WPA-PSK and it works with no problems.

No offense mate, but could you atleast try and make your posts slightly readable? BTW, I have networked an XDA using just a WiFi dongle and managed to surf the net using it. We did not need a router. Not knowing what profile a PSP has hardly reflects my general PC knowledge. But then i have not used much WiFi stuff so i am cleerly not as 733t as you sorry. But thanks anyway, eh.

Can anyone actually give me a clear answer on this?

lol jonneymendoza every post you make makes me laugh

dangerous_dom: Your quite right that you don't need a router, a £10 dongle will do you fine using ICS - just remember that doing it that way means you need your PC on to be able to use the connection.

I would say try out the PSP web browsing first (if you havnt already got a psp) and see what its like..I havn't got one but I would imagine its like any other small mobile device for web browsing - cool for a few mins but you will soon miss your mouse and kb

Well at least he's entertaining i guess, even if he's not the 733t haxor!!!111 he thinks he is. He's obviously quite a young lad. Just wish he realised he was using a computer and not sending a text message when he writes!
