No its neither, it can be just mid game for no reason, ive done some searching and found loads of info about it, so im not alone, happened on my old p4 too, thought this pc would be man enough for it, ive a sneaking suspicion my audigy might be the culprit, does annoy me greatly

Is this THE famous HL:2 stutter? HL:2 has suffered stuttering problems since it came out. If you are fully patched and still get it, head over to the steam forums for more help.

EDIT: If you want to find out if it is an audio issue, which it sometimes is, completely disable your sound card and try it then.

Well look at my sig as my system runs it perfect with full AA and AF at 1280x1024 on max everything so it must be a game problem and not a hardware problem. Have you done benchies just to check?

its little pauses yeh, but the sound sometimes rolls like "free free freeman" - very annoying.

Benchies to check what kezzer? PC is working spot on, everything else runs fine.

Sounds like the sound stutter issue for sure. Even on the HEXUS.gaming test rig, running with maxed everything and maxed AF and FF in the NVIDIA CPL, the game is smooth as a greased polecat on a waterslide until some sound event kicks in... Even the intro sequence with G-Man hitches and starts a couple of times.

I don't find it ruins the game though, there are very minor pauses... I find getting the bloody annoying squadmates out of my way to be the more annoying thing!

Ive managed to minimilise it a wee bit, but getting rid of AA and AF and lowering sound quality, its still there, but its not as often, id say its definetly the stuttering bug, really put me off playing it before, and installed it thinking it would be fixed, but obviously not yet

Maybe the new nvidia drivers next week might change something.

Usually it requires a re-install of HL2. Mine works fine and my system specs aren't as good as yours
