Thumbs up Peter Jacksons King Kong Demo

Demo has just been released and I have to admit after reading the huge preview in last months PC Zone I'm really looking forward to it. Gamershell have 4 mirrors which arnt full for the 290 Mb demo.

    Grab it here :

    http://www.gamershell.com/news/25383.html

You should be able to get it in all the usual locations like FilePlanet also, lucky if you have their premium access to get it straight away, however I'm downloading from Zen UK via Gamershell and its coming in at around 114 K per sec

You only get 2 levels on this demo but its left me wanting ALOT more, its absolutely awesome !

First level you play escape from the T Rex where you have to keep comrades alive while they open a door by throwing spears at the T Rex, shooting at it so it chases you or you can shoot the birds out the sky and the T Rex will eat them giving you more time, you then escape into a tunnel and that part of the demo ends there.

2nd part you play as King Kong himself and this is really special I have to say, you are limited to moves and its basically a beat em up of collosal proportions, I should imagine alot more will be incorporated once its finished but for now you can punch, grapple, hit the ground with fists and if you press the rage button and then hammer the LMB which leads to Kong going in for the kill, he leans right back prising the T Rex jaws open and snap its dead. Then you do the monkey type acrobatics and swing from ruins and hanging onto walls which is seamless and so easy to pickup.

Thankfully Peter Jackson himself is behind every moment of the game and with this small slice of action is going to be big.

I also like the interface on it, there are no health bars at all, you have to listen to breathing and you get a red hue round the edges of the screen when life is getting low so it is very interactive. Graphics and sound are great, when Kong or a T Rex roars you really feel like you are there and the visuals are some of the best I've seen, T Rex has leathery looking skin and Kongs fur is all there sticking up in the wet !

Roll on Christmas when the movie is released and also the game, definately one I'm buying on day of release, from what I've seen its awesome !

Tried it out, didn't enjoy the T-Rex bit, but LOVED the King Kong bit <3 Demo ran nice and smooth too, and I really enjoyed the real cinematic feel to it all, with all the deep atmosphere etc. Can't imagine buying this but seems pretty cool

I believe they are using Starforce copy protection in that game and demo and if so I would check out the following before you let it on your system.

They are indeed and I wish I knew that before I installed (!) the buggers got me and I now have that muck on my machine.

PC games are cheap... don't pirate them

Most can be pre ordered or purchased on release for £17-25 online with 40-60% price drops within the year. After that you get GOTY editions with bundled expansion packs which is when I tend to buy my games.

Track mania sunrise £4.99 on Hexus bargains forum now that's really very cheap

If you can't afford to play the latest games play some slightly older titles with the added advantage you don't need an expensive super computer. Live within your means and if needs be 12 month behind everyone else. Pick up the odd new release as gifts at christmas or your birthday.

If you currently pirate most of your games... do me a favour and pack it in. I'd like to be able to buy games without heavy handed anti-piracy stealthwares.

Looks like i'll make a ghost image of my system before I try this demo. The game looks very good.

Couldnt agree more, thats usually what I actually do with my games, if theres something I really want (FEAR for example) I buy it on day of release.

I have just recently bought Thief 3 on budget, almost a year after its initial release date and am pleased that I have waited for it and really enjoying it, if I had the money at the time it was released i would have bought it.

As for Starforce protection, it also installed with Second Sight and Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory. I havnt had any probs with Nero or anything on my system at all since its been on there. Companys do have the right to protect their software.

    That was a good read...

he real joke is the fact that the cracked versions of the games do not come with the disruptive copy protection - meaning that the pirates do not suffer the ill effects of the driver that are inflicted upon legitimate paying customers.
lol! i can see people buying the game just for the serial and then downloading a copied version

For the record, and please listen carefully, just because I dont like things like starforce doesn't imply that I pirate software. For the record I have never pirated a game (well not since school where I may have attempted to copy spectrum games). There was no need for starforce for the demo and that annoyed me as I installed on a clean box here at work - hence my annoyed reaction.

I was just saying in general rather than aimed at anyone in particular. Perhaps that's not obvious... no offence intended.
