Next gen consoles vs pc

All these new consoles coming out and not sure whether any are worth it. Play games mainly on my pc and think that any really decent games will be multi format.

What will these new consoles give me(starting with 360) that a pc won't.
Not against buying consoles(I own a PS2 but mainly play smackdown vs raw and GT4 on it) but they are going to have to offer something which my pc will not if I am going to stump up the cash for them(I do like the retro gaming idea of the revolution).

Firstly(as it is due out before the others), what will make it worth buying an xbox 360(I never bought the orig as thought it was a console wanting to be a pc). Is the hardware going to kick ass? Are there going to be mind blowing games on 360 near release time?

Opinions/comments please.

Im a PC gamer 90% of the time but I will be buying a 360 and Revolution...

Points to Consider...
*£280 for a 360 which will play the latest games on release looking lovely... that same money will buy you an already outdated GFX card on the PC and nothing more.
*4 Player in same room - so much fun to have mates round and have 'same room' multiplayer on a fighting or racing game.
*Consoles are great for said Racing, Beat'em ups, platformers
*Pick up and play without having to worry about compatibity probs
*Living room / Sofa gaming just to kill time.
*Xbox + Pc = Media Box

That said tho they do have the bad points...
*PC's will soon overtake GFX wise (again)
*Games are more expensive than PC
*No keyboard and mouse for FPS's (not a problem for some but i dont like pads for such games)

I could write something huge, but I won't. I remember though that upon the current gens release of consoles, their power was pretty high. In fact I think the PS2 was in the guiness book of records for being the first console more powerful than the highest spec end user PC at the time of its release. I think the Xbox360 is going to match, and even beat some 'dream PCs' since it really has been built for brute power.

If you are really that unsure though, wait for it to come out first and see if one of your mates get it, and judge for yourself, since we should all really hold back proper judgement until we have all got to play one. I would advise at the moment though to register a free account at www.gamespot.com or www.ign.com or something, and watch a load of videos from games that look interesting.

Disagree (apart from game prices) A true gamer won't care about the graphic being overtaken in 2+ years time. As with most console releases, the first gen games are not as pretty as 2+ generation. Once the developers get the hang of the system they make very impressive improvements. Look at the Halo series for proof.

Thank god there is no keyboard/mouse. I've had experience of the Dreamcast keyboard & mouse and there is no way that i'm having that set-up littering my living room again. Once you get used to the controls the pads can be great for FPS games, it also helps if the developers adds more control layouts with customisation. Most PC gamers cite lack of keyboard/mouse as an excuse not to buy a console, in my view thats a very weak excuse.

Just a few X360 exclusive games that will be a must own.

xbox 360 is ati (xbox was nvidia)
revolution is ati (gamecube was ati)

and as for why to get a console... the games! duh!

any good game, no matter what system it's on, demands to be played. if there are xbox360 exclusives, pc exclusives, whatever, a real gamer will do what they can to play the titles that deserve it.

i have a high-end pc, and plan to own all the next gen systems - especially the revolution, which truly offers something new

Yea the Revolution recently announced it's going to also be using a modified R520, but they know very well that it isn't going to match the performance of the other two, but it was not their aim to take part in the power race.

If there are hardly any games that make proper support of the gyro remote etc I will not get the Revolution at this rate, but I'm hoping it won't be the case

Revolution will just need a good starwars jedi game to take advantage of the controller then it will sell very very well

The only one reason i even look at games on the PC is because of the mouse & keyboard controls which work very well on FPS games.

FPS games are the only game i play on PC, i think its pathetic to play platforming or racing etc at a desk.

As soon as Sony and MS finally work out that they just need to push developers to make their console FPS games keyboard & mouse compatible i won't need to touch a PC for gaming again. Especially since the next gen consoles will have HDTV resolution which is PCs only other advantage atm.

I'm sure millions of others would too drop PC gaming for the same reasons, assuming the PC games become available on the consoles too

Been mainly a PC gamer for a while now but I've pre-ordered an XBox360 and will be using that for my gaming needs.

My PC is an AGP based system so upgrading my Graphics card to play the likes of FEAR is all its glory would involve me spending a lot on a new motherboard, CPU, PCI Express Graphics card and possibly RAM.

Basically got fed up of constantly upgrading my PC and will be using the XBox 360 for gaming and the PC for office stuff, email, web etc.

Spend the best part of £500-700 on new PC components to play some games or spend £280 on an XBox 360 and play games like:

Project Gotham Racing 3
Gears of War
Huxley
Too Human
Mass Effect
Alone in the Dark
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
DOA4
Perfect Dark Zero
Ghost Recon 3
Halo 3
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Kameo
Resident Evil 5

I can connect it to my 20" Dell Widescreen monitor and the sound to my Hi Fi amp and speakers. It will sound awesome and look fantastic running in 720p on the monitor. Not forgetting I can lay back on my bed and play via the wireless controllers.

Do love online gaming but XBox Live will take care of that.

The thought of forking out £500-700 on upgrading my PC to play a couple of FPS games does not appeal to me anymore.

The only next gen I will get is Revolution. Any thing that can be done on a 360 and PS3 can be done on a PC only better. Revolution is totally different so thats why nintendo gets my money, as it has for the last two generations as well.

Want a Revolution too.

Previously owned a Gamecude and had many enjoyable gaming times on that.

My intention all along was to get the Revolution plus either the XBox or PS3.

XBox360 in December and the Revolution this time next year.

Well seeing as I'll be a poor student next year buying an expensive pc is probably out of the question so a 360 or possibly a ps3 would be a better buy for games . One problem I have with consoles is that they are the same for 4 or 5 years and this time round they aren't particuarly far ahead on the hardware front so will be outdated by high end pc's well before the end of their shelf lives.

The revolution with it's cool controller does look tempting, something like a Star Wars Jedi game would definately be very cool.

iam sticking with PC!! because just after the xbox360 comes out i plan to upgrade to a xfx7800gt 256mb PCI-E - they are on scan for £245 and i expect will be cheaper after christmas. This upgrade should be more than enough to keep up with the next gen consoles, i suspect with a 7800GT that the next gen consoles wont even keep up!

I have a Dell 2005FPW but it won't be compatible with 720p because it has no progressive scan? (or does it?) There is also 720i I think, which means something like interlaced (lol TOTAL HD noob here) but I don't know which - if any - will be compatible with our monitors. Either way I am going to buy a HD-to-DVI cable or something like that if possible.
