I just bought BF2 from game today, installed it, installed the latest patch 1.3 only. Went to play online and it says my cd key is invalid. How can it be invalid, i only just bought it.
Do i need to install the old patches also?

It is entirely possible that someone has been very lucky and generated your BF2 CDkey with a CDkey generator and then used it with an illegal release, and managed to get it blocked. This doesnt normally happen (iirc MOST cdkey gens are coded not to provide valid online keys, only install ones).
If this has happened, or what you should do anyway, is contact EA (phone is best although they aint too bad at replying to emails) and see what they say. Normally if you send them a photocopy of your reciept for the game and the manual and your CD key they will issue you a new one - but this isnt guarenteed, its done on a case per case basis.
Other than that you could try re-installing from scratch and do patch 1, 2, 3 and see if that makes a difference..
BF2 doesn't use cd keys for online accounts does it?
When I bought Counter-Strike Condition Zero about a year or two ago, I bought it new (unpacked though), and some **** at Game (where I bought it from) had used the cd key, so I took it back, got a new key and went home with no problem.
When i worked at Gamestation we never took games back that customers said 'CD key invaild'
"Your either stupid and cant type it in or its the manufactures problem."
Your problem sounds like someone has 'stolen' your key and used it with a different copy? As everyone else say contact EA, i hear they are generaly very good with this sort of thing... Digi Pic of game box, manual (with CD Key) and CD's normaly does the trick.

Yeah, GameStation do seem a bit smarter, because cd key theft could be very easy, if everyone said their key wasn't working.. I was been genuine when I took it back though, and I'm glad Game sorted it out for me rather than me sending my copy to Valve in America for £15 and waiting for weeks, and finally them sending it back and blahblahblah.Originally Posted by Dooms
I bought UT2004, and let about 4 of my mates install (NOT COPY, big difference) it to play online temporarily, worked with all of them with my CD key so that game was quite the businessOriginally Posted by PrivatePyle
As for topic, as long as you have the reciept you have a sheilded protection from god himself on you
Dice went and screwed this up in the latest patch, so ur not the only one. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26725
Fix for invalid CD Key
First look in you battlefield 2 support folder and start
Battlefield 2_code.exe
to reenter you Key
Then
1. Start the patch program again (no this is not a reinstall - keep reading)
2. Select your language
3. At the "welcome-screen", do not proceed!.
4. Keep the patch-window open and go to your start menu, select "run".
5. Write %temp%
6. Search for BF2CDKeyCheck.exe
7. Double click BF2CDKeyCheck.exe
8. You won't notice anything at this point.
9. Now your CD-KEY troubles are over (worked for me).
Will they ever get this right? I've almost given up with the whole BF2 thing, it just seems to get worse and worse!
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...
