So what do you think of Q4 then?

Just popped back home for lunch to grab something and noticed Q4 arrived, had a quick blast on it and first impressions are good, looks like it will be a fun run and gun romp anyway. Performance is good (as you would expect from the Doom3 engine), sound is OpenAL which is nice too. It does stir up those nostalgic memories of playing Q2 when I should have been in the lab working, I think its the Strogg noises, they have a similarity to the original Q2. Good fun.

Got mine from Game (on a pre-order). They seem to be shipping early then, they did the same with FEAR!

Aparently it runs better then Doom3, and Doom3 ran pretty well on your system I assume, so Q4 should be fine

    Looks and sounds great:

Along the way, you'll run into marines who can upgrade your weapons. Your shotgun will eventually be modified to be a clip-fed weapon, making reloading a snap. The nailgun gains the ability to lock onto targets and shoot homing nails that make it behave almost identically to the needler from Halo. The lightning gun upgrade makes it chain off and attack other enemies standing near your target. The hyperblaster upgrade makes its shots bounce off of walls. And the railgun gets a power upgrade that makes it much more useful. The rocket launcher gets an auto-loader that loads up three rockets at a time, letting you fire them off in faster succession.

Also it looks like you get to control vehicles and it's got my favourite map from Quake 3:

Great excuse to persuade my parents to pay for my computer upgrade.......

Looking forward to this (heard good things) but won't get my copy till tomorrow and probably won't play it till sat. Expecting this to look graphically better than fear and run a heck of a lot better too..

Found some benchmarks on another forum - this is for a stock 7800GTX

    1600x1200, high quality
    - no AA: 71,6 fps
    - 2xAA: 62,6 fps
    - 4xAA: 46 fps
    - 8xAA: 14 fps

    Sweet I assume this being doom3 engine-based it's capped at 60fps anyway..

Makes me wonder if Game is going to get its ass smacked for shipping Q4 and FEAR early?! I got both these games at least a day earlier than the official release date... Got COD2 on pre-order from them also - hope the trend continues!

heh ive got FEAR and SS2 from play as well, and got Quake 4 on the way. There not the best with delivery on pre-orders, but there usually the cheapest.

As for Quake 4, looks good, iam looking forward to the SP. And like you say Dangel, should run a heck of a lot better than FEAR, that engone is ridiculus, i get 300FPS in some areas, and it drops down to 30fps regulary.

Me too, walking into a room and 9/10 times having a monster spawn behind me is loosing its originality. I think even on the hard setting there are way more medi kits than you really need.
    Rhyth is selling:
Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di ll LD Aspherical (IF) £230 +pp
    Canon 50mm 1.8 II £50 +pp
    Proven good copies.
