Nintendo DS + Wi-Fi adapter = Online gaming?

    Hey

I'm getting a DS soon and I can't wait. While having a look at Lik-sang last night I noticed a Wi-Fi afapter for the DS (official Nintendo product) that allows online gaming...

    http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?cat...ducts_id=7807&

Does anyone have anymore info about this?

    Thanks

    Tim

The DS is an 802.11b device. With several games, you can play multiplayer with those within a rough vicinity (it creates an ad-hoc network as & when).

A couple of games (Animal Crossing DS, Mario Kart DS) are being released, featuring online play. You can play online through one of the following:

    • WiFi Hotspot. BT OpenZone and The Cloud hotspots will offer free DS multiplayer (but charge for all other wireless access, as per usual)
    • Wireless access point. This would be something like a home router, or somesuch. Any wireless connection, really.
    • Nintendo USB WiFi dongle. This is a normal-seeming USB pendrive-shaped device, which will create a functional DS-compatible wireless network and bridge it to the internet when plugged into a Windows PC

You do NOT need the nintendo adapter if you have wirless already (though I don't know if the DS is happy with WEP/WPA)

    Thanks for the info!

I haven't gone wireless at home yet - no reason to. I'll probably end up with the dongle.

    Thanks again

EDIT: Will any old USB Wi-Fi adapter work?

You'd have to build your own ad-hoc 802.11b network with it, which may or may not work depending on how you get your internet connectivity. the nintendo one auto-configures.
