Sony to provide full length films on your mobile

Beginning today, some of Hollywood's biggest names will be strutting their stuff on the small screen thanks to the "Movies on Memory Cards" initiative from Sony Pictures Digital. Several films, including Hitch, Ghostbusters, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and Stuart Little are now available on memory cards to view on mobile phones.

Check out the Press Release on HEXUS.gaming for more info.

Seems a stupid idea to me....

Will they also come with poorly-written DRM rootkits, or is that an optional extra? Given what Sony have been up to recently, I'll be avoiding their products in future.

Adding a useless function does not make a device better; it makes it more expensive and less practical

AFAIK it replaced the ipod photo range at no extra cost for the equivalent models. So my 20GB ipod 4g (mono screen) costs the same as a much updated model nearly a year later for £19 more? I don't think many people would complain about that... plus I used to watch videos on my C500 phone all the time, which has a smaller screen so theres probably quite a few people who would find videos useful, just not you

Yeah but spending £20 on a video to watch on your mobile is stupid. Spend the ~£12 and watch it at home with full 5.1 surround sound etc.

Films are meant to be watched when sitting comfortably at a big screen.

Phones are used for calling, PSP is multifunctional and the screen is superb quality.

I agree but I suspect it might be aimed at the 'impulse buyer'... a phone version of those crappy compilation CD's that they have on the counter in petrol stations...

Let's face it, they must have figured out there's a market for it or they wouldn;t have bothered.

To be honest, if you haven't blown £180 on a PSP, £20 for a movie you can watch on the train without having to buy the hardware first is a good deal.

i donæt fancy paying to watch a movie on my K750, but have been tempted to watch my...erm...own content on there

Had a play with the new iPod in John Lewis the other weekend. I was impressed, the screen in great, just that little bit bigger than the previous generation, makes all the difference. I love my Rio Karma (RIP Rio) but would quite like a 80+gig MP3 (or indeed Ogg) player so i could take my whole collection (almost) offshore with me

No, it's a complete rip off IMO. Why spend £20 on a super cut down low res version of a DVD you can get for £12? That's just madness. It's like the fools that buy a DRM ridden low quality version of an album from itunes for £8+ when you can buy the original full quality non restricted CD for less. Buy the DVD/CD and rip them. That's where it's at and you can already do this without extra hardware (if you own a PC). Convenience is no substitute for impatience.

That is unless, you can format the memory stick and use it for other stuff?
