COD2 is it that much better than COD1?

    Hi,

I'm thinking of getting COD 2, I enjoyed the 1st one

However I have heard some people say that they are dissapointed with the new realease, saying it's same old, same old.....

Then again, other people love this game....

    What do you think?

Well..Yes its same old same old - but thats a GOOD thing.

Just like when doom3 came out, that was same old same old doom action - and I loved it for it

COD2 is a great game, great fun to play, with the only downside being its slight console simplifications (eg the horrible new health system).

Worth your money Sequals are not there to give millions of new innovative things, they are there to continue on the series in a similar style. This is what COD2 does beautifully (and what doom3 did )

COD2 is fun to play, I found on my system upping the AGP aperture size allowed me to run it with more detail and in DX9 mode for anyone having probs getting it running smooth (same goes for Quake 4)

Its really easy to get into and lures you into a false sense of security as the Russian levels are extremely easy to play through and so are the British levels up until one point ! You rescue some American soldiers in a small town then you play an American level where its D Day but you do a different beach and have to scale the walls and fight through trenches, its so chaotic. At this point the difficulty goes from dead easy on the normal level to really challenging !

All in all its a darned good game, only dubious thing about it is the health system. Its almost the same as HALO where if you duck behing cover you become fine again in a few seconds. However a headshot or well placed grenade can and will kill you instantly (Germans never seem to miss with the grenades which can be a little annoying, if you are lucky a squad mate will pick up the grenade and throw it back). Also you can take on the objectives in different ways, either throw in a smoke grenade and rush the enemy or flank them to the left or right and catch them by surprise.

Goiong back to the health system you dont have any point type system in place, the edges of the screen start to go red which is the warning sign. What I like about this is that there isnt a need for a hud so it feels very immersive with nothing onscreen unless you change weapon or load.

I've played it through and loved it. There are a few niggles but with luck there will be a patch to sort those out.
