    GAME announce profits drop

GAME have announced an expected profits drop for this trading year, blaming poor software sales for older formats with shortage of the new consoles not helping things.

Check it out in this HEXUS.gaming Headline.

pretty unlucky on them tbh what they need to do is set up an online games download site for Xbox live ^ ^ pay for it over the net and download on to there HD, im sure they would make loads of money that way

And not a word about software piracy! I like that. Wonder if their shares fell down and are worth buying for next years increase

If they don't like the fact older formats aren't selling as well maybe they should give it some shelf space unlike the wall to wall shelving of PS2/Xbox. It'd also be fairly cool to see a proper retro section in game, like Gamestation has.

I think by older formats they mean PS2 and Xbox.

How can those be older formats if they're current gen? 360 isn't out here..yet.

Because 360 is coming out people are waiting/saving money for it and not buying the old stuff. What's so complex about that? If a new model of a car comes out the previous one becomes old and the demand on it falls, which leads to dealers cutting prices. Same happens here.

Oh, and things being out and things being current generation aren't the same thing.

    Online Retailers.

Play.com, Amazon etc supply the same games/software at much lower prices. Game is pricing itself out of the market, due o the store overheads etc. their prices will be a bit higher regardless.

I still buy the odd bit from there/Gamestation, because I can't be bothered floggin old games on E-bay, I just trade them in for a ridiculously low price.

They do serve their purpose though, sometimes you just can't wait for a game to be delivered in 3 days. Also play and the like have been pricing some games quite near to Game's prices, say 24.99 instead of 27.99. Sometimes 3 quid isn't much to pay to get the game straight away. They also do sell things online and you can cash in some of the old games too. Its not all bad.

In the interest of keeping you guys up to date, HEXUS.gaming undertook a bit of research in Milton Keynes today...

Our intrepid mole has found the PSP to be freely available all over the place, Woolworths, GAME, HMV and Virgin all have plenty... but the limited edition coloured DSs are a different matter with just one of the GAME stores in the MK shopping center having a few Blue DS units left with everywhere else being out of stock. You can still get the silver DS on its own in most shops but even these are running low on stock.

The pink nintendogs bundle is apparently as scarce as a radio control Darlek !

As for GAME, online retailers and supermarkets must really eat into their market share these days, I dont think Ive bought a game from there for a few years now.

But these figures are for the entire trading year. I doubt people have stopped buying games for the whole of the trading year just because 360 is on the horizon.

I'm sure PS2 is still outselling X360 (yes, stock is very low which contributes) but I am sure many PlayStation fans, which is the dominant brand in videogames in this country, will wait for PS3.

Personally I think the reason for lost profits is that they're simply too expensive and the games can be had cheaper elsewhere, so they're making excuses about 'old' formats. IMO the next gen doesn't begin properly until the PS3, and the Revolution is out. But thats all a matter of opinion

Pink Nintendogs bundle is going for vastly inflated prices on eBay. Looks like Nintendogs & Mario Kart have made for the DS having a very bright future. I wonder if this kind of software support will be consistent.
