How quickly do you think a console dates, compared to a PC ?
The PS2 has lasted about 5 years so far. Try playing a new game from the PC chart on a 5 year old PC. Its not going to run very well, if at all.

Its also difficult to think of the TV in the same way as a monitor. Fair enough my HDTV panny 37" plasma was more expensive than a 19" monitor, but then it is also a TV and hooooooooge.

PC's are still 100 times better value for money. Unless you only play games on it.

I second that - you just can't play ATARI 7200 catridge games on a XBOX 360 or any other consoles, but you can on a computer.

(providing of course you own the original copy of that game if running from a ROM)
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

I can play NES, SNES, and Genesis games on my PS2. I'm sure there are some other emulators that I'm not interested in that are written for the PS2.

Anyhow, you have to update a computer every 2 years v. a console every 6 years (soon to be shortened lifecycle if Microsoft has its way).

Consoles tend to last longer IMHO due to the fact the programmers have a set peice of hardware for the games to work on so things are streamlined and tweaked as much as possible, with PC's programmers just turn round and say, get more ram, get better gfx get a faster CPU...

although they are basically and technically the same thing, i still think of them as 2 different things. the pc is my main media centre, and i play a few games too, however if i were to get a console it only has one purpose and therefore i see them differently. if you see what i mean

Everyone seems to be looking at things the wrong way here...

I personally feel there is no competition between the PC and consoles....

PCs are like Formula 1 cars, all new technologies etc. are developed and experimented on here...

Consoles on the otherhand are your safe common or garden road car, everything has been seen and tested before and preset to optimal settings, consoles can only do what it says on the tin...

What I'm saying is yeah, you can compare the two, but doing so will do you no good...as they are there for different purposes...

Grrr. Another poxy 'PCs are better than consoles' thred.

Beanfpro has hit the nail on the head. Why compare them? They're different machines, with different uses, aimed at different markets, and thus incomparable.

    End of.

I think i said that, read it again.

Also, you may have to updrade more often, but when i look at my mates PsS2 game collection he has about 100 games! Times that 100 by 20 (the ammount saved by getting pc games over console games) and thats £2000!

And ok so my mat has alot of games but 50 games is still gunna be £1000!

Also, its worth something to say how much better PC graphics are all of the time.
