Which driving sim? GTR? GT Legends? Other?

I'm in the mood for racing and having downloaded demos for GTR and GTLegends I can't decide what I prefer.. Also, is there anything better out there right now?

TIA,
S.

Nope

They are possibly the best two racing sims that money can buy. They are more for the hardcore gamers though as trying to stay on track can be quite a chore if you have all your aids turned off. But if u played the demos and liked them, buy both. Gt legends is visually more impressive than GTR, but GTR is a lot faster. Either way both games are great

They're both great, but I would say Live for Speed S2 and rFactor are also both worthy of a mention.

www.liveforspeed.net
www.rfactor.net

rFactor is really more a 'platform' for mods, but the standard cars are good for a blast, the current best mod IMO is the F3 Euroseries one, which is due for v2.0 quite soon. There are a fair few converted tracks for it and most of them are pretty good quality - not many scratch built tracks yet - but give it time.

Live for Speed is incredible IMO, stunning online gameplay and fairly light on ye olde system (<---- take a look and see, I can get up to 50/60fps @ 1152x864 with most settings on high, no AA or AF though) and is a quite small download. S2 is currently in Alpha stage, and still has some physics bugs (mostly at low speed, so shouldn't affect you at racing speed) but they will likley be sorted by the full release.

If you need more info on LFS then gimme a shout, the licensing system can confuse some folk.

Ooh, and Grand Prix Legends is also excellent, but its really quite hard to get to grips with, still worth a go.

So many good sims about!

I have found GTL a lot easier to get in to that GTR, pcworld do gtl for £20 but dont forget to budget for a wheel.

Kewl beans guys - thanks for the suggestions - I'll check them out and let you know how I get on.

Related to this: I already have the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Wheel. It's the original gameport version that is reputed to have 'troubles' with WinXP but I've never had any problems with it.
However, I wonder if I'm missing out any anything that FF should be giving me - is something like the Logitech Momo that much of an improvement these days?

I have tried both, dont think one is hudgely better than the other, Masterflash uses the same wheel as you and races in a league.

Another racer recommending Live for Speed

After a long pause I've started to do hotlapping in LFS. Addicting like hell, again. Currently over two secs behind the WR with FOX in South City classic. Pretty good considering I use mouse and keyboard for steering and I'm definitely not a pro in setting up the car

I know this is a bit off topic, but when is that new TOCA game coming out?

MasterFlash - my concern was that I've read a few reports that suggest the Gameport version of our wheels don't respond to all force feedback effects when using XP drivers.. Just wanted to check that wasn't true, and that I wasn't missing out on anything..

DeludedGuy - TocaRD3 is due for release in Feb'06 - I played the demo, and wasn't that impressed yet TBH, but we'll see what it turns out like.

I gave Live For Speed a go - it's pretty good actually, but in the end I wandered to PC world and grabbed both GTL and GTR - I couldn't decide between the two, and only payed a couple £ more for being able to play them today, rather than wait for play.com to deliver..

I'm addicted - I've been ragging that Mini Cooper S around Donny for 5 hours straight, and I'm still not bored. I really must start playing the game for what it is rather than just Free Practicing - that way I can earn me that Capri RS...

Thanks to everyone for helping me decide.

I'd be up for some GTL over the next few weeks, I've been trying to organise a race with a few people from a GPL community I belonged to a while back (BY Games/Trickery)... I'll keep this forum updated with our plans for races, if that's alright? It's always been a fairly friendly community of gentleman races - any aliens tend to get bored and wander off the third time the lap us all

NaturalPoint TrackIR4 Pro - stock?

Okay, so I've also been looking at the TrackIR systems for a while.. Having made myself drool with a few more video demos, I now can't find anywhere in the UK with stock.. lol.
Does anyone know somewhere in the UK that stocks them? I've tried RC and EDim, but they've had the inevitable Xmas rush on...

And yes MFlash, a game is definitely in order - I'd love to show a few people how I crash. I've only got 256u/s here tho, so we might have to do better than that, no?

Im not sure what a good speed would be, I know its pretty high if we want 8 or more ppl.

Regarding Track Ir.. I use it for flying (IL2) but have found it hard to get used to with racing.
I got mine from here Clicky clicky!!!! last xmas.

Finally managed to get through to Edim (thanks for the seccomendation Flash )

Didn't realise thier prices on the web site don't include VAT when you switch to 'UK Sterling', so it was £20 more than I was expecting - but I ordered one simply because they have them in stock, came with £5ers worth of 'free' cap, and they guaranteed it before the end of the week....

Flash, if you want to PM me, I'd like to try a multiplayer, cos I've not done it yet - only had the game 24 hours. Oh my, I'm turning into a right little race monkey...
