Need for Speed MW demo: my impressions and performance query!

Got around to buying a mag with this on the cover and it's.. interesting...

The reviews state that the handling seems a bit more realistic/heavy than NFSU2, a game I really liked. But it just didn't seem the case. Maybe I need more time on it, but it actually seemed more arcady than before!

The cars in the demo all seem really light and twitchy. There's a good impression of speed, but they seem to handle like something out of midtown madness. I actually preferred the feel of the cars in NFSU2 - they seemed to have more weight/react to forces better.

That said, I love the environment in MW - daylight at last!

But graphically.. I'm in two minds - I think it needs some work to get looking good and smooth. Basically it seems to look poo unless the ansiotropic slider is at maximum, at which point the road suddenly transforms from looking worse than NFSU2 to looking better. But then it looks really jaggy, so you have to enable AA, which besides making it just a little too sluggish for my liking also seems to blur everything. While this gives it a kind of console/arcady look, it's not really to my liking. And did I mention it makes it too sluggish? On *my* rig?? Gah.

And the blur effect.. nice in small quantities, but really, quite annoying, and makes it sluggish again. I would like the nitro blur, but nothing else.

Where have all the options gone? The menu interfaces are horrible to control on the PC, and there doesn't seem to be much control on what special effects you have.

Anyway, does anyone have some tips on ways to get this game looking ok but still performing ok? Does my rig really suck that much?

    Cheers!

How do you disable the motion blur on the 360? On the PC I think it's a simple registry hack.

Why would you want to? Motion blur just makes everything look faster.

    Can't wait for MotoGP!

That's just an example of excellent AI - it's LEARNING the course on the fly, Terminator-like, so by the third lap it's unstoppable. Now that's intelligence!

Give it a fourth lap and it'd lap you...

the game is alright, as expected from nfs its a good arcade racer.

Yes the catchup is a bit annoying but not too bad (im on BL3, 4 or thereabouts before anyone says "you aint hit it yet") . Also it isnt as optimised for PC as it should be but some gentle fiddling gets round the performance issues (i.e shadows and car reflections have huge hits)

few noticeable parts of poor framerate on the 360, i was gripped tho, completed it now.

bit miffed at not being awarded achievements for 8+9 (despite the box telling me i had) so im hopefully racing back over the BL crew to get em registered.

tho having started a new career and beating 15, 14, 13, 12 and 11, its not said 'achievement unlocked' when ive beaten em, so slightly worried ive lost them into the void forever
